I'm a sucker for Impeller Dishwashers
Hi, my name is Mike.
I bought this dishwasher, but on Ebay, and it was a great deal! However, the seller might have made a mistake when he listed it for sale on Ebay.
The Craigslist ad clearly listed the selling price as $100, plus the ad has a reference to Ebay. However, the Ebay auction listed the opening bid amount as $9.99 - with a comment at the bottom of the description regarding the fact that the reserve amount is not disclosed (or was the decimal point misplaced?). I had written to the seller to determine if the dishwasher had yet been removed and asked for photos of the current "as is" condition. He wrote back: "Professionally removed - cant answer all the questions - not at home to take photos - good luck bidding - I was there during the removal and personally carried out the frame and diswasher". I had an immediate mental image of a big box store installer hacking the hell out of the dishwasher getting it out!
I vasillated back and forth on whether to buy this machine - even consulting with "gedish1947", who really wants one of these too. I had come to the conclusion that because of the long distance from New York to Illinois, it was going to be too expensive to buy and ship this machine. But one hour before the end of the auction, I choked - thinking "What the heck - it's only $10" so I placed the bid. I was almost certain that there would be a $100 reserve, but to my surprise, no comments were displayed about the reserve not being met, and I won the auction. I'm hoping the "professional" didn't totally trash it. I'm still in the process of working out the shipping details.
I saw this same model dishwasher, in yellow, at Jimmy's (Filterflo) Wash Party over the Thanksgiving weekend. I was drooling over his machine and some of the other dishwashers that he has. (He really has a wonderful Washing Machine, Dryer and Dishwasher collection!!!)
I've been pretty silent here. I joined aw.org back in July, but I've not yet contributed much yet about my collection. This will be my 9th impeller machine. I have a junk 1950 G.E. Electric Sink; 1948 G.E. Electric Sink; 1948 Hotpoint Dishwasher (White); 1951 G.E. Drawer Dishwasher (White); early 1950's Westinghouse Drawer Dishwasher (Yellow); 1958 G.E. MobileMaid Dishwasher (Beige with Pink interior). Then, waiting to be picked up from Wisconsin: 1937 G.E. Electric Sink (White with Black top); 1950 Hotpoint (White). I also have a mid-1950's James; 1955 Hobart KD-11P (White); and a 1960 Hobart KD-12 (Stainless).
I've made videos of three of the dishwashers operating, and will start a new discussion thread to introduce them.
For purposes of the archives, here are two more photos of the 1954/1955 G.E. Drawer Dishwasher just purchased.
