Hi all,

I've been looking at what possibly could be my next addition, this lovely Hotpoint Supermatic 1464. I really want it and the seller is willing to deliver to Ireland but for £400!!! I can't afford this I'm only 15! I haven't bidded yet because I want to see what price it gets to. Are there any cheap options?

Also is anybody looking to get rid of a Hoover Spinarinse from the mid 60's? Or a fill/drain hose for a Hoover Single?

James.

Find one over there!!

Hi James

It is not worth paying £400 for delivery and you should be able to find one over there anyway. Lots of 1464s were sold in ireland in the 1980s (and the Electra equivalent through the ESB), and they are pretty indestructible so you should find one. You'd be even better looking for the Supermatic Deluxe with the autorinse facility - makes washing much quicker. When we took holidays in the North West in the 80s every other person had a Hotpoint Supermatic!

Have you considered putting an Ad in Buy and Sell - say something like "Wanted - Twin Tub washing machine" and see what happens? Ebay doesn't seem to do much over there, but Buy and Sell used to have loads of machines on offer. Failing that try an Ad in your local paper...

I'm moving over in Jan, but we'll only have room for the daily washers in the first move. If I can find a spinarinse and squeeze it in with the removals, I will, but can't promise just yet.

If you get totally stuck, I'm sure you'll find a courier that will deliver for less than £400!! I've got a Hotpoint 1509 coming about 250 miles for £75...

Why should I have to pay for the first decent looking 1464 I see when if I wait for a while one will turn up. I'm going to to the recycling centers in Derry soon so wish me luck. I have an ad in the paper but I'll try Buy & Sell for a better chance.

I want a Liberator so bad... what did the purple Supermatic look like?

James.

The Liberator Twin tub...

...looked exactly like the 1464 except that the controls had purple plastic parts rather than black or brown!

Have a look at this old thread and see if you can spot one! Lots of other interesting Hotpoints including some of earliest ones!

Hi James.

As David says, dont go spending £400 quid (or any amount of money resembling that) on shipping a machine, especially on a Supermatic.

They are everywhere, in their various forms, over here and they cant not have sold in droves in your neck of the woods either.

Put out another ad, specifying twin tubs and I am sure one will surface for you.

Dont be fooled by the 1464 either - it isnt a Liberator machine (only models 1467 and 1469 were purple).
Model 1464 was a 'Best Buy' machine and was on sale alongside the Best Buy brown 18-series and the later Best Buy New Generations. Probably on sale from 1981 through to 1983ish.

Keep your money in your pocket and be patient. Hopefully your money can put to much better use, when you visit your local recyling centre!

Good Luck - hunt down those classics.
Paul
