While I find it tremendously overpriced I still find it nicely washing and rinsing out pretty well.

What are your thoughts? I cannot speak for the newer SA8 detergents (color, delicates, baby nappy and what have you) but just the standard blue pack regular SA8 like it used to be for so many decades.

I like it, price high or not, I just do.
They used to have a pretty good softener, too. But apparently it now has more than one single fragrance (and I fear the smell of it is something of these nowaday's ladies' wellness spa things again, some fruit yogurt type of feng shui crap) ('scuse my harsh words, but I just cannot get the idea of having cinnamon, cocoa or any other Christmas bakery ingredients in my laundry.).
How about today's Amway products?
 
They're good enough products....

...but I don't buy them because they're overpriced and I don't want to indirectly contribute to some of Rich DeVos's causes.
 
I used to buy SA8 detergent and it used to do a terrific job. Then it was reformulated and the performance dropped dramatically. I no longer buy the stuff or anything Amway anymore since they are too pricey for what you get.
 
It sudses more and costs a lot more than Tide HE powder and I don't see any difference in performance. I bought some to test, but would not use it on a regular basis under any circumstances because of the company's owner and the causes he supports.
 
Your Mother's SA-8

Like so many I remembered the bright lemony scent of SA-8 and being able to watch the clothes dance through the sudsless water.  As recently as 2000 I was disappointed with the performance of SA-8 and learned that Washington State required the product to be phosphate free and as a result the formulation didn't provide stellar results.  In Idaho State it could still be purchased at that time with phosphates.  I ordered a couple boxes sent to a family member there.  Sadly the performance was about the same and all scent was gone.

Yes, it is true, I myself do not want to contribute to that DeVos scheme and all these political pushes-and-shoves.

But on the other hand: I was always amazed how well SA8 washes away and rinses out clearly. Now this could mean 2 things:
a) it really clears up easily and the residues are gone.
b) it shows no more bubbles or gray water and the ingredients are still there (only transparent)
What is it all about this "corn starch formula" said to be "ACH so green"?

Thank God we have this law here against "Scheinselbständigkeit" (literally: "alledged (!) independent entrepreneurship") - meaning this: If you open up a business (which all of the Amway partners will have to do) you are FREE to organize your business the way you want. Should be harnessed or forced to work under similar conditions like other so-called "free" enterprises or should all of you have to follow the same terms and rules of the game (which apparently is the case when being an Amway dependency), THEN you are considered a wannabe "free" entrepreneur = not free, but following ONE company's rules (very much as an employed worker would have to).

So fact is: While Amway does not really like their distributors to sell stuff any other way than through home demos and "showing the plan", anyone is free to sell the stuff otherwise or he/she is free to take other competition products into their range of stuff they sell (and Amway cannot do much about that).

I guess I will get some of the powder through a really independent seller owning an ebay shop or selling it directly without all that cult and religion behavior. Just someone who is not blinded by their crap sermons.

Let's see if it (the detergent) still does as good as a job as it did in the old days.
Meanwhile "Dash Tiefseewirbel" (P&G) or the French "Persil" (Unilever stuff, qui est fait au savon Marseillaise, cela me plaît beacoup!) have come in handy as an alternative for me.

any experiences with Amway's SA8?

Loved it when it still contained phosphate. In its heyday it was the bees knees of detergents. Hypoallergenic, no fillers (thus no residue build-up in washer), biodegradable, concentrated, enzymes etc. and so on. A lot of the other detergent products have caught up and now offer the same benefits for a more reasonable price; plus they still contain phosphates. I like my phosphates, they do make a difference. I compared the performance of the old SA8 with the new one and wasn't all that chuffed. It's not worth the money.

All in all I now prefer to stick with Tide, Cold Power, Ivory Snow and Woolite.
 
Ex-Amway Distributor for Good

I let my Amway IBO membership run out in 2008 after the floods hit in the Midwest. It got to where the price of renewal exceeded my regular use of SA8, as well as the oral care and other Amway products, such as LOC. Other than some leftover LOC and Dish Drops, which I use as a mixture for the shower, I am totally back to the store-bought brands. I also got sick and tired of the old elderly fuddy-duddies who were so overbearing and condescending; and their age was showing. These were my upline sponsors. Since I never ordered any Amway stuff online for myself, I ordered from these elderly uplines. Their service delivery to me grew worse. Their main reasons were spending more time with family, Amway meetings/conventions, and a variety of other out of town events. Hmmm. Funny how more of this was happening with increased age. So I just let my Amway membership run out and will never again renew. It was a very sad decision I had to make three years ago, but am glad I did. Eventually, the email newsletters and snail-mailings just ceased and desisted. Funny how Amway has resorted back to television advertisements for Nutrilite and Amway products. Could it be that Amway is feeling the economic pinch as every other business and consumer out there? Seems like twenty years or more have passed and Amway has not really grown as much as it did in its heyday years from 1959 to 2000. In any case, I still have a bunch of laundry scoops from SA8 from when I first joined in 1991 till I jumped ship in 2008. I also have a refillable soap bottle from my sales kit that I still use for mixing the LOC and Dish Drops as described before for use in the shower/bathtub. I have such bitter-sweet memories of my involvement in Amway. True, I enjoyed the group picnics and potlucks just to hang around the friends I met, but I eventually felt more and more alienated and out of place due to the fact that I am still single with no kids and that I have not grown my business. I started out trying to get others to join Amway and then to sell some products, but long since gave all that up for good. Just not the salesman type. Also, the straw that broke the camel's back was when I wrote my first book involving references to commonly used grocery items. Because my book did not involve Amway products, I think this caused the group and my uplines to ignore me even more. I still say that Amway is get rich quick and while my uplines got richer, I did not. Besides, shortly before I left Amway, in an email newsletter from my upline, they reported also selling American Greeting Cards, along with Amway products. Hmmm. I wonder why? Anyhow, that's my Amway story as I know it. Time to get off my soap box and scoop some detergent.--Laundry Shark
 
I used it for a few years back in the early to mid 80's, the mother of my best friend in high school was an Amway dealer.  It was good stuff but got to be too expensive.
