And your point is?

That you think, because I am a liberal, that natural laws don't apply to you?

A very funny way to think.

And, yes, with 99% of my family exactly that - red-nex who get all their information from Faux news, I feel very comfortable drawing the inference.

If you have any valid evidence to present showing that vaccinations either don't work or that they present any real level of risk whatsoever regarding mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde, propylene glycol or have any causal relationship whatsoever to autism, retardation or other disability, present it.

If not, drop the ad hominem attack and ask yourself why on earth it is in your interest to object to people not becoming ill? You're a sensible man and I enjoy your posts, all in all. What on earth is your motivation here?

I have type 1 diabetes.
The doctor was pestering me to have a flu shot only 3 weeks ago!
I said -No way !
My mother who is 85 yrs of age was also " called " to her doctors surgery for the flu shot.

And your point is?

My point is, if you disagree on a topic, simply disagree. I'm willing to bet there's a hell of a lot more (gay) rednecks on this forum than you or myself are even aware of. Same goes for republicans. Yet, you just took a topic that has nothing to do with ones political stand or way of living and unnecessarily offended a bunch of members here. Blasting these types of remarks makes one not only look like a total ass, but a complete fool as well.

I am type 2 diabetic and get the seasonal flu shot just about every year. Before my diagnosis I recall getting the flu which landed me in bed for two days straight... unable to get out of bed from a full day and night...

I often get the "mild flu like symptoms" they say is a normal reaction to the flu shot. An annoyance but nowhere near as debilitating as the real flu can be.

Of course the flu shot can't prevent one from getting a cold, and some colds are severe enough to feel like the flu. Plus it's impossible for the flu shot designers to anticipate every strain of flu that might strike each winter. So there's about a 30% chance you could get the flu from a strain that the shot doesn't protect against. I prefer to think I'm 70% more protected...

I also seem to get adult pertussis about every 20 years or so. So a few years back I asked for and received three shots at the same time: seasonal flu, adult pertussis, and pneumonia. Now I did get some symptoms after all that, but didn't miss any work.

I am type 2 diabetic and get the seasonal flu shot just abou

Are diabetics more susceptible to getting the flu? Just curious. Thanks!

Dan,

I ride (motorcycles and horses).
I shoot (won first in silhouette twice, once with black powder, I was second in archery at my university).
I can milk a cow without getting kicked, milk a goat and keep my hair, muck out with the best of them...

And where I grew up, the only people wearing those stupid K'Boy boots were those idiot tourists who descended on us during our six week summers to go to the dude ranches.

In other words, what real country living is, I grew up in and understand.

I offer no insult to anyone who makes their living from the land, just the opposite. I wasn't and am not strong enough to do it. Riding fences with my dad's friends and neighbors as a kid was more than enough for me.

Yes, I teach. Until I was certified to do so, I repaired appliances, full-time, in a licensed workshop. You know what I did the first months? I scrubbed out the old refrigerators, washers and stoves. Sorted salvageable parts into their respective bins, cataloging them along the way.

At the same time, I was cleaning hotel rooms evenings.

I offer no insult to those who earn their living working with their hands, I've spent my life doing it and, frankly, given the 'all children left behind' and stupid PC laws not to mention zero tolerance idiocy, I may just not teach in the US when I return, I may go back to working with my hands.

What I,yes as a liberal, object to very much, is people being conned out of a safe, reliable and necessary adjunct to public hygiene: vaccination against communicable disease.

Why shouldn't I point out that Faux news and the red-nex mentality are serious problems in this context? First, they are. Second, I get to deal with the joys of red-nex mentality every day in my family. The drunken wife beaters. The meth addict husband beater. The never once were all adult parents out of jail at the same time in the last 21 years joys of babysitting. The can't get a decent job without a high-school education lament followed by the can't keep a job because they expect you to show up for work every single day, on time...and sober lament.

The not one, not two but three major brawls in the family because Obama is dark skinned and that's reason enough to ruin the 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with a fight...

I mean no offense to anyone in our family here at AW.org who is conservative. I very much stand by my statement that rejecting medical advances which were scientifically tested beginning centuries ago and have yet to be disproved is stupid. D-U-M, dumb. Red-nex mentality, period.

Oh, right, forgot. I was a lifetime NRA member and used to grab the Rifleman to read it first as a kid. Left them several years back when they went nuts. You want country, fine - I grew up in the country, I can and have and do live that life with pleasure. But country is not red-nex, just as being fiscally conservative (me!) is not the same as being a Bush#43 Republican.

I have never had a flu shot to date. I don't seem to be "prone" to getting the flu, since I haven't had it for almost 20 years. BUT, if I were prone to it I would certainly go and get a flu shot. I believe in vaccinations whole heartedly! I seem to get bacterial infections much more often than viral.

I will get mine this mine..It will be Free...H1N1 too

I have Rheum. Arthritis among other things..Dont need the crap

Are diabetics more susceptible to getting the flu?

I don't know if we are more susceptible, but the condition is supposed to make one less able to deal with infections like the flu.

Reasoning through it, the symptoms of the flu might be more severe for a diabetic, and the chance of complications (bacterial infection, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.) might be more likely for a diabetic. So thus it's considered better not to get the flu in the first place.
