No competent doctor would tell you that a flu shot is a guarantee against getting the flu. Pneumonia is genearlly bacteria caused and as such not amendable to prevention by vaccination (vaccination works best against viruses, not bacteria).

There's a lot of misinformation out there... mercury in vaccines has never been positively identified as a cause of autism. Saying it is "linked" to autism is incorrect and misleading.

Similarly, saying through the "linked" word that aluminum causes Alzheimers is also incorrect and misleading.

The amounts of mercury, aluminum, and other compounds that might be in vaccines is minuscule. The preservative is there to prevent bacteria from growing in the vaccine while in storage before administration. One probably injests more mercury from having a tooth filled at the dentist. Plus, the mercury in thimerasol is indeed in a different sort of form than that found in fish - with the type found in fish being far more dangerous to human health. They left that little fact out...

Believe what you will. I would be the first to admit that medical science is not infallible and a few hundreds of years from now people will be laughing or shocked at some of the common treatments of today. But I have great confidence in the efficacy and safety of modern vaccines and know that they have done wonders for human health.

And I'm just wondering: if medical science found a 100% effective vaccine against HIV, would you take it? Or would you rely upon diet, exercise rest, and abstinence instead? Are you willing to bet the farm that you will be safe from communicable diseases without vaccination?

I don't trust Doctors either. Vaccines are Crap. There's more news lately about the toxic ingrediants in vaccines. I believe the first rule in the Dr. Oath is "Do no harm". I believe that we have over sanitized this country so there is nothing left for the immune system to chomp on.Being Poz for 28 years (and no meds) I find it absolutely ridiculous to inject dead virus and toxic ingrediants into one's body especially if your immune system is already compromised.
There was a clip on mercola.com about a Doctor who said he would NOT have his family or himself inoculated with the vaccine. How scary is that when a Doctor speaks up.

I don't understand all this fear/ mistrust of doctors. People seem to be crawling out of the woodwork with fear this time around. Why are people so scared? these are dead viruses, they pose no harm and will lessen or prevent a serious illness. If you want to get sick that is your right but stay the hell home when you are.

Medicine and doctors are not perfect, but they are better than the alternative.

I started getting flu shots 12 years ago. I have worked in hospitals and they always offer them for free and now I work for an insurance company and they are also offered for free. I have to say that in the past 12 years, only once did I get just mild symptoms of the flu. I think everyone should get them, I agree TOTALLY with Keven.

Even though I am in remission with Lupus, my immune system is not the same. SO, why take any chances?

I used to get flu shots yearly throughout most of my late 20's and early 30's. Then I skipped one year(as advised) because I had been pumped up with antibiotics after an appendectomy. I then fell out of the habit and didn't get them until the past few years or so. I turn 40 next month.

Since I resumed yearly flu shots, I get sick a LOT less. I'm planning on getting mine next week, and will get the H1N1 when I can. My insurance covers it, and frankly I can't afford any lost work time or lost school.

And oh yeah, man never landed on the moon. It was all just a hoax cooked up in Hollywood. And Princess Di isn't dead either, she's just hiding. With JFK, who loves him some green M&M's. But she's having sex standing up so it's ok, she won't get pregnant.

I bet a lot of people from years ago, would have wished that there was a vaccine for polio, etc. out there. My Rheumatologist who is quite older than I had polio when she was little, because the vaccine was not out at that time.

I got the H1N1 Flumist today. After seeing my son burn up with a 101-103++ fever for 8 days thanks to H1N1, then finish that off with a case of bacterial pneumonia that took 17 days of antibiotics to get rid of (because his immune system was in the dumps) I want *no* part of what's going around!! So I got it to protect myself, the rest of my family that haven't gotten it yet, and the rest of the population who aren't wise enough to get it for themselves.

The reason I posted my comment here was that I had a "flu shot" about 10 yrs ago .
I was rushed to hospital and I almost died !
Now ,if you have had a flu shot before and are still here to tell the tale then you're lucky .
I am lucky enough to have survived .

I don't doubt that would scare you to death, literally.
I got the swine flu shot in 1976 and still got the swine flu...
But that doesn't change facts. The risk is next door to nill, the benefits enormous...and not just for the individual, for all of us.

My main problem is with the folks who just repeat the nonsense they've heard - and thereby make people so uncertain, they put themselves and society at risk.

You and I live in countries which make it possible to stay home when we are ill. Most Americans do not have sick leave of any kind, they can be fired for staying home even if they have a doctor's note that they are sick. It's the ideal situation for creating a pandemic and all this nonsense about heavy metals, etc. is just plain irresponsible.

There are some folks who very legitimately should not get a flu shot due to underlying health issues, and you could be one of those folks through no fault of your own. My best friend is in the same boat -- he has some kind of neurological condition that could put him in the ICU or kill him if he gets the shot. But that's all the more reason for the rest of us to get vaccinated to protect those who can't.

The "out of the blue" risk for modern vaccines (which are WAY more pure than even just 20 years ago) without any underlying conditions is really vanishingly low. Living here in the States where we still have a lot of coal-fired power plants we probably get more exposure to a variety of nasty heavy metals just being downwind from one of them than we do from vaccines these days.

Either that, or just eating a bunch of sushi can dose you up on mercury... at least according to Jeremy Piven (ha!)

Last time I checked, it was the highly educated hippies that researched and brought about this kind of info to the public, as well as our recently accepted nutritional diets they were touting (and persecuted for) 40+ years ago.
