So far 2 days in a row, yesterday @ 7:25 am and today @ 8:16 am (Pacific) I've had trouble connecting to AW.   Yesterday I was trying to go from one thread to another, then today trying to post a reply to a thread.   I use a PC at work and tried closing the browser (Chrome) then reopening, also tried Explorer, but simply got the error below..

This occurrence prevented access for about 10 minutes each time.    As soon as I sent an e-mail to Robert (like within 30 seconds) the problem resolved itself.

Software error:

<pre style="white-space: pre-wrap; font-weight: normal;">Unable to connect: Too many connections </pre>
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-weight: normal;">For help, please send mail to the webmaster (</span>[email protected]<wbr style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-weight: normal;" /><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-weight: normal;">), giving this error message and the time and date of the error.</span>

not just you.....been getting the same error.....

I thought it was an Internet Explorer issue, but tried Firefox, and had the same thing, but thought it was just me.....apparently not

My apologies about the slowdowns today everyone...

Unable to connect error is not an error on your computer, it's a server issue. There are two common reasons that this happens:

#1 When the ISP upgrades or applies patches to the server software or hardware changes as they usually do in the mornings.

#2 The search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo scan the site for their indexes. Occasionally they all hit the site at the same time which can use up all the available connections to the site.

Unfortunately as a mom and pop site we can't afford to have multiple servers with load balancing for the same site like the big guys such as facebook, twitter, ebay, etc. So on occasion there are going to be times of very heavy traffic which is going to cause slowdowns and/or connect errors.

This week I suspect they are doing maintenance work on the servers so I suspect we will see a bit more of that unfortunately.

Kevin your email to me was a coincidence that it came back up in 30 seconds as most of this is out of my direct control.

I had the same problem too but it resolved itself shortly and I concluded that as with many good things in life AW is worth waiting for! This site works so well that it's easy to get spoiled and forget that some things are beyond Robert's control.

Thanks for the info Robert!

I suspected it was a server issue, as well as pure <span style="font-size: 12pt;">coincidence it started working again after sending the e-mail.</span>

I just wanted to make you aware of the issue in case you weren't.

Thank you for all the time and effort you put into supporting and operating AW, my life would be very different if Automaticwasher.org wasn't part of it!

Kevin

P.S. thank you for correcting the thread tag!

Every Morning at exactly 5:15 AM EST...

AW goes down for 3.5 to 4 minutes. Ever since Robert switched to the most recent server or what ever it's called. ( Too many peroxide highlights in my youth has caused computer non savvy-ness to the Computer Lobe in my Brain.)

So it's the perfect time to either refill the coffee and let the genie out of the bottle or unload the Dishwasher.

By 5:19- 5:20 AM EST... All is right in the AW World and the Washer Boys may continue to Carry On.

Just my observation.
