Stopped in a local off price store, and noticed the had Wisk "Free" powder detergent. Wonder if it is safe for use in front loaders? Box gave no indication it was "He approved", so was wondering if anyone knew.
If it was in a small red box, had a plastic handle like a purse and said anything about "ULTRA," that could have been a box from the later 80s when many of the powdered detergents were repackaged in ultra concentrated form, came with a little red or clear triangular measuring scoop, and were very low sudsing. Then Wisk, like most of the rest, went to bigger boxes with more fillers and a formula that made more suds, IIRC.
I think that is probably from the 90's when
Wisk first introduced their ultra powders. Haven't seen the powdered free version in a long, long time....... I still have a few boxes of the scented Wisk powdered "power scoop". That was indeed low sudsing as were all the ultra powders when first introduced (except for Surf and Gain)
Amazing how not even 15 years ago the fragrances were much lighter.....
Wisk powders haven't been manufactured for years! Caveat emptor. (Although I found a huge box of old DASH at a price off store about 12 years ago and I couldn't resist. Seemed to work OK and I just loved that old DASH smell).
Hello Laundress,
In the 1980's we had a Wisk liquid detergent available here in Australia although it only lasted a few years.
It was supposed to have a built in deodorizing action to clear body odours and the like as well cleaning dirt out.
It seemed to work pretty well as I remember my Mother using it a couple of times and she seemed pleased with it.
It was in a bright red bottle I think, is it still available in the U.S.A.?,and if so does it have the same type of formula?.
Mind you one would expect one's detergent to clean out odours as well as dirt so I never really understood what was to be the benefit if any of a deodorizing ability.
Cheers.
Steve.
I came across this site today while trying to find some "black-market" phosphated commercial detergent. If I remember correctly, the Wisk shown on this web-site was the second generation powder, which is quite different than the Wisk powder first introduced in the early 1990's. It is white, and probably non-phosphated. I'm considering purchasing a case of the Wisk with Bleach powder. I was wondering if the formula of this product is similar to the Wisk tabs that contain Perborate bleach that you have been serching for, Launderess?
I haven't seen powdered Wisk in years. IIRC, the stuff you are talking about, Launderess, is from the early 90's. This stuff was really good, and VERY low-sudsing. The scented version smelled very good, and seemed to clean quite well. It is a blue powder, somewhat similar to the old Cheer of the 1980's. Could it even be phosphated? Did they have the scented version as well as the "Free" version? If so, I may try contacting the vendor to see if he will sell me his remaining stock of the scented powder. I was just thinking about this stuff the other day!
Will check, but do not seem to remember a "scented" version.
If it is commercial detergent you want with phosphates, I've got some going on another thread.
IIRC have seen Wisk powder in those little "coin vend" boxes somewhere, but cannot remeber at the moment. If or when it comes to me, will let you know.
