What kind is it, Fronty? I'm still waiting for my eBay win. Oh, wait. I can make out the fancy gold lettering. Voice of Music. Congratulations!

The Magnavox Hi-Fi console-TV combo shown in the link is in REMARKABLE condition-the units in swap and thrift shops need a LOT of work. The other day I found two Hi-Fi consoles by the side of the road in front of a house out here with "FREE TAKE ME" signs on them.Stopped for a look-A Zenith "Allegro" console and a Magnavox Hi-Fi from about the same era as the unit shown in the link-was going to clear some space in the home to accomidate them-and went back to get them--and they were GONE-someone else had the same idea-Consoles like that are RARE around here.Found them on Sat Morning-"thrifting" at yard sales.Only found a Porter Cable "Speedbloc" sander for the tool collection.

Tolivac, don't give up on the consoles, they are there. I fully believe any state north of Florida has them waiting. On my way home from Jacksonville, FL. on Tuesday, I stopped in Rockledge and found a five foot Magnavox from the late '60s in the Humane Society thrift store. I am grossly overloaded in my 975 sq.ft. home, but will make room if I go back to get it. Of course that's if it works. It is 85 miles from here.

For some oddball reason consoles are rare in the area I live-A former radio collector and fellow worker here at the transmitter site commented on this-He didn't know why-but he also said he had a hard time finding Maganavox and similar consoles out here. The ones I am especially looking for are the tubed "Concert Grand" models.Felt the tubed ones were best.I figure those will be especially rare-the hunt goes on!The ones I saw are the ONLY ones I have seen here-in the 6 years I have been living here. The thrift and swap shops don't see 'em much either.

I believe you, but in spite of that, they have to be there. I think the diehard original owners won't let loose. My dear aunt Teeny bought her new Magnavox from Harry Haga in Lynchburg, VA, and when her daughter E Sue(we're southern) got married, her in-laws bought them a beautiful contemporary walnut Magnavox, and forbade them to put anything on top of it. That was the year "Rosemary's Baby" came out. Look in the furniture stores, I found my '63 GE Custom Decorator in a new/used shop. Our "Mustard Seed" thrift store had the Concert Grand once for $5.00.

WOW!the picture of the Maganavox Hi-fi on the Magnavox demo record looks like the one my Mom had-at least the receiver-control panel. And the two sliding doors over it.My Moms was in a "Modern" look case. The Conecert Grands I felt were their best-Biamped-and nice Magnavox-Jensen cast frame woofers and tweeter horns. And those speakers were in SEALED enclosures.A nice peice of Hi-End Hi-Fi gear. Will try the used furniture places here-very few but here.some have gone out of business. Its funny about furniture stores here-the last a year or two-then go under.also the rarity of the Magnavox units in my area could be explained that there is no Magnavox dealer here.I would bet the nearest dealer would be Raleigh or Wilmington. In other places I have seen console hi-fi's at yard sales-no such luck here.that was in the days before I had a car.

It amazes me that a town like Fort Pierce, FL. had two Magnavox dealers, Jim Sowinski, and Forget's, both on opposite ends of Orange Avenue. I guess the larger cities in North Carolina would have had dealers, I know you couldn't get Magnavox, or any other major name brands just anywhere. Check your antique malls, I've seen sets from the thrift stores end up in ours. There is a closed shop that has a ton of Magnavox consoles in it, hard to say what shape they're in, since the store supposedly suffered hurricane damage. The man is a collector, not a defunct dealer.

When I lived in the Wash DC area-there were MANY Maganavox dealers-some Hechingers stores carried them-loved to listen to them there-they had excellent listening rooms for the Maganavoxes-like a "Hi-fi Salon"!And Hechingers was a home store-an early Lowes or Home Depot-Hechingers was in the Wash-DC,Baltimore areas. Now they are defunct. It is sad the Greenville NC area doesn't or didn't have a "Maggie" dealer. It seems bookshelf, tabletop hi-fis are common here.

Tolivac, while you're looking for your console, look for the wooden component Magnavoxes. They made tabletop receiver/changer units, sealed and unsealed speakers, seperate components, or keep an eye out for the fancy portables. Forget's had a split lever listening room, on the right rear of the main showroom, a TV room in the right front. The building is still there, but it is something else, now.

tolivac!

I have BUNCHES of Maggie consoles. You're not that far away....so c'mon for a visit and take one home!!! Mark (I also have a guy that can fix them!!)

BTW

I know of two Concert Grand's here in Roanoke, but we might have to do a lot of talking to get the owners to part with them! Mark

Mark:We need to get in touch-maybe we can work out something-I would love to provide a home for those Maganavox Concert Grands!I would need to get a truck to haul them in.Don't think they would fit in my Highlander.Would LOVE to see your collection of Maganavoxes and appliances.thats another thing thats rare here--Vintage washers.

63getelevision:years ago knew of a neighbor that had a Maganavox TT receiver-speaker unit-and the other speaker unit-essentually a "split" console. You could place the units further apart for better separation. He had them on the ends of his sofa-used them like end tables. They sounded really good.I only played them once.but was impressed.sort of a way to get the advantages of components with the other advantages of a console.

Tolivac, I have an end table Magnavox, without the extra speaker/record storage unit. This will play stereo thru that single unit, then be seperated into the remote other right channel, when you turn the switch inside. My set has a channel problem, but I play it anyway, when it isn't loaded up with my roommates posessions. I found the complete set up with both end tables once, but since Mom was still here, I couldn't get them. After she passed away, I used Christmas money she gave me from a couple of years to buy the single radio phono piece I found in another store. I hope it is feasable to get to Roanoke to get a Concert Grand or some other high end Magnavox. Good Luck!

AKAI X-360

This fabulous Akai tape deck was given to me recently and it just needed a tiny bit of lube & dusting to get it playing like new again. It sounds magnificent through my Zenith.

Thank you, JeffAdelphi. You rock, dude.

I want a Magnavox reel to reel for my toys. I know someone else made them, but in light of the fact the largest part of my sets are Magnavox, that's what I should have. That Akai is fantastic. Congratulations!

A quick break from my favorite brand.....

While I'm in wardrobe doing a costume change for my next big
number!!!!!
I acquired this matched set of speakers in the early nineties
by way of a roommate, dearly departed. Don't know their age,
rating, or the exact type of venue they were intended for.
They currently reside in my Brothers shop , hence the drill
bits they are holding. They could be restored to magnificence,
I'm sure!!!
