The first place my partner and I rented together was a big 4BR home from 1954 with all gas kitchen--including the fridge. Ovens and cooktops were identical to the WH's shown above, our oven and fridge had been replaced but the cooktop was still there. It was an awful bandaid/peach/pink but very solid. We'd take walks and would see through various kitchen windows quite a few of these WH porthole ovens still in place.
Every spring the city we lived in at the time sponsored a clean-up campaign and you could put ANYthing out in the gutter and they would take it away for free. Each year we'd see these ovens and cooktops out there, having fallen victim to yet another remodel. We snagged a better looking cooktop than our own that way, but it turned out to have bad valves so we chucked it ourselves. While we both liked how solid the cooktop was, we could never completely warm up to its styling. I think the color had a lot to do with it. Seeing the turquoise one above, I think it's something I could own again.
