Anyone one in the Uk want some good Australian washers?

Coz there are a couple on ebay lol, first of all the Simpson, one of the first with electronic controls, This one is the Platinum model and it offers a 10.5kg wash load which is massive. These machines are quiet mainly and do seem to do a good job on the washing. Check it out UK members.

Next is westinghouse, a 7.5kg complete care model, very cute but alas not one with a window in the lid like many of these have. I just used my friends one this evening, quiet and great at washing, spins at 900rpms so nice dry clothes. Any takers?

Interesting.

The Westy still has Australian water and energy stickers so must have come to England via the back door but I am intrigued by the Simpson.

It says Simpson Platinum which is a model name never used in Australia. This model would of been sold as the Encore in Aus and Simpson was going with the "E" theme of Esprit, Enduro and Encore. Now they are using the model name Eziset.

This machine is also labelled as 10.5 kg!!! That is amazingingly huge. This same machine was marketed as 8kg in Aus and only with the current shape was the extra large 9kg tub introduced.

So I must conclude that Simpson was making machines specifically for export. I wonder if anyone know's anymore about that.

So sad the Simpson factory is closing I wonder what machines are going to wear this uniquely Australian name?

Some years ago, between 5 and 10 yrs, I was chasing parts for a UK FL. I got a copy of London Yellow Pages from the library and found a couple of mentions of places servicing/spares for Simpson washers. I phoned one and asked if they were Aussie Simspons, he said yes but couldn't tell me anything much about them. So I guess that Simpsons were officially sold in UK for at least a while.

Having just read the ad, I reckon the Simpson is from New Zealand. The seller is "emmergrating" to NZ.

I think Simpson machines may have been imported for commercial usage, along with F&P machines. Possibly rebadged by a commercial company too.

I'm drooling over that Simpson, but alas I don't have a truck nor anywhere to put it... hey-ho (.

Have spotted a few Aussie machines on eBay UK, presumably because people ship them over when emigrating only to find that they don't always fit well into our smaller houses. The reverse is also true, and every now and then you'll see a Hotpoint or Zanussi on eBay AU - although I do wonder how much hassle would be involved in obtaining parts and service should the machine later break down.

How are Simpsons and Westinghouses regarded in their native land, and would they be classed as throwaway trash or reasonably dependable? To me they look fantastic with their high speed spins, electronic controls and multiple options, but I guess many Australians would consider them to be very ordinary indeed.

They are a standard machine

Up until 2 years ago when FL machines started making real headway, they were a typical machine, like a whirlpool or maytag in the US.

The current machines are good for 5-10 years depending on usuage, they usually cost less than $1000AUD (Reasonable) and are cheap to repair. To put it in perspective, a cheap AU machine starts at about $500-600.

They are relatively gentle, with very loooong slow strokes and one can only imagine the G forces with a 900 or 1000 rpm spin in a drum that looks like it has a diameter of 70cm plus.

You can compare the Australian market version to this one for sale in the UK which obviously has been changed for another market.

Seems a shame that if they planned to export these washing machines it never took off the ground.

Simpson washing machines do a very good job of washing rinsing and spinning. They last for about 5-10 years but most people dont bother repairing them, even though repairs on these machines are often quite simple and cheap.
