What did you think of it? I just got home from it. This has got to be the most unbelievable, most over the top, most hilarious movie I have ever seen. It bounces off so many walls and goes in so many directions, my mind is still spinning. I don't think it's possible to pick up every little nuance in one screening.

I will tell you only that it ranges from politically incorrect to downright vulgar at any given time, and certain parts are surprisingly graphic for even an R-rated film. It is an equal opportunity offender and there is something in there to offend EVERYONE. If you can rise above that and just have a good time, it's a real treat. In a way, it's really a masterpiece that had to have taken some talent to pull off. I cannot tell you the last time I laughed so hard, so much. It's just insane.

And talk about sold out! I initially went last night for the final matinee, which was to be at 5:40. That, and the remaining 4 shows for that evening (2 screens) were sold out. I can't tell you the last time I encountered a sold out movie. It's been years, and I go a fair bit. I was determined I was going to see this movie this weekend, so today I called and preordered a ticket, which you can then pick up from the box office or electronic kiosk. They have a special line and a special ticket taker just for Borat. First one guy takes your ticket, then you have to give it to another guy who initials it or some such thing, THEN there's a security guard standing at the theater door to check your ticket AGAIN! I have no idea what that was all about, but I sure had fun.

I want to go see it. The dude that plays Borat is Sacha Baron Cohen, an English comedian. I loved him as "Ali G". Have any of you checked out the Ali G Show on HBO? Borat is one of the characters he does in some of his skits. Was surprised they made a movie out of the Borat character. Anyway... will try to see it soon.

Rich.............

Cars is wonderful. My soon to be 4 year old son is in love with it and counted down the days until it came out. He has watched it 6 times since Tuesday. :)

Rent it (or buy it) when you can!

Agree that Ali G was interesting for a minute or two but I couldn't help seeing the horrific Tom Green (and if anyone here remembers him, master fool-maker Mal Sharpe) not far beneath the surface. I wasn't planning on seeing Borat based on my disintrest in Ali G, but the reviews seem to indicate it might be worth a look with appropriate intoxication achieved first. I'll wait for the DVD. I think "The Queen" is worth shelling out for the big screen experience but I'll wait until Netflix has Borat. Shouldn't be long.

I have cable but not any of the stations you pay extra for so "Borat" is my first exposure to this actor/comedian. I had a lot of fun and in fact plan to go see it again with a friend who wants to see it.

I'm a rather apolitical person so I was totally sick and fed up with all that, and between that, everything else going on in the world and to an extent in my life there for a bit, the movie opened at a time when I really needed something totally stupid and silly to laugh at and forget the rest of everything.

I caught "Ali G" being interviewed on late night talk shows (such as Leno/Letterman) but frankly I didn't find him all that amusing at that time, either. Once I figured out it was all an act, my interest kind of waned. But Borat the movie I suppose is a bit different because, as I understand it, the movie portrays him going about America duping unsuspecting Americans into believing his schtick is real. So I guess the audience may be laughing at itself as much as the outragiously offensive Borat. And, true to American tradition, I read today that the two drunk fratboys who appeared in the movie have sued because they weren't told that their appearances would make it into a major motion picture where they would look like fools.

Cars? I bought it yesterday at Costco. Along with a few others that were heavily discounted (Cars wasn't). Just got through "A Mighty Wind" (very funny) and "Waiting for Guffman" (I fell asleep, have to put it in again). I'm saving Cars for when I know I won't be sleepy :-)

Saw Borat

this afternoon with my friend Linn.

Out of a possible 5 stars, I'd give it 3 1/2 to 4 stars.

I thought lots of it was quite funny, though not my usual thing in the movie line. I adore "A Mighty Wind," and "Best in Show," for example, but Borat was worth seeing....once.

At matinee prices. (We still have matinee prices here in Ohio.)

My all time favourite scene was the naked hairy wrestling.

Your Majesty, there is another movie playing on this side of the pond called "The Queen", which stars Helen Mirren, and which we screened Monday evening last. While we can't say that it contains any "hairy wrestling scenes", you may wish to consider screening this film as well. We quite enjoyed it.

Your Majesty,

How very nice of you to remind us of that movie. We have heard about this movie and we have decided that it is a very suitable movie to appear in public at.

We hope all is fine on your side of the pond. A state visit would be in order, but the treasury doesn't permit it at the moment.

Sincerely yours,

QLOTOC

Suds, it's hard to go wrong with anything by Christopher Guest. I LOVED "A Mighty Wind" and "Best in Show" and am looking forward to Guest's next film which should be out soon. Any film maker who draws on the talents of people like Fred Willard and Catherine O'Hara will always capture my attention.

M-Bear, if "Borat" has naked hairy wrestling my partner and I might just have to go see it. Maybe there will still be a night that's warm enough for the drive-in movies if it's playing there. Pick up a bucket of dinner, stock up on snacks & candy and settle in for some partying along with the movie!

Cars

I enjoyed Cars - the animation is superb and the voices are great also. My only major disappointment is that there is nothing on the DVD that lists the actors that did the voice - just the credits at the end of the film, and those were almost impossible to read on my standard definition TV. Given all the extra stuff they put on the DVD, I would have thought some simple text listing the characters/voices would have been no big whoop.

I had read a negative review of Cars sometime back. The reviewer said it left him cold because there is no way to make a legless, armless, faceless car imitate a human adequately to convey emotion. Well, I think he was wrong, they did plenty with the wheels to convey emotion, but I did have some questions about the romantic component... I mean, how do you get two cars to kiss? But since the film is aimed at kids, and most kids (like I was) are really disgusted by kissing in films, it's no big loss. My favorite character? The italian tire shop owner... LOL...
