Hi folks

Following up on two previous threads I started on my 1964-1966 RCA Whirlpool dishwasher...

I think I'm going to buy a new dishwasher, rather than make fixes to the RCA Whirlpool myself. So this means anyone here who is interesting in having it, please let me know. Photos and the condition you can find in the two previous threads under my username.

To get it out, I'm cutting into the countertop, rather than sacrifice any part of the dishwasher, because it turns out to sit below the level of the linoleum. I'm just going to hang onto it until someone comes forward who wants it... The kitchen will look less pristinely 1960s, which is a shame since it is really a time warp (and I'm not looking forward to 90 minute cycles), but oh well...

Oh, don't cut the counter top! IIRC this model should have adjustable legs at the front of the machine that you can lower to permit the machine to slide out from under the counter. I safely extracted a later-60s Whirlpool machine from a kitchen with a completely inflexible granite counter top that way!
I am also interested in the dishwasher, but I am not sure when I could get down there to pick it up... If you could email me with some further info about where exactly it is, that would be great!

OLD WP BUILT-IN DWer

You may be able to get it out by slightly lifting the counter at the front, and this model had a separate tray that can be removed last. The best DW to get is the standard tub KM from Sears it is made by WP and it is much easier to install in an older kitchen with a built up floor. It also is the best performing DW made period and only takes about 45 minutes and only costs a little over $300. If you can't find it I can get the model # for you.

Paul I am getting rid of the more basic model of this machine in the doeskin color let me know if we should add it or parts thereof to your next shipment.

Thanks, guys. There are two screws holding the dishwasher to a tray, but I can't seem to find any adjustment for height... and if I lift the dishwasher, the overhang of the countertop sits in its path out... hm

Paul, it's in Belmont, MA, just west of Boston by 6 miles. I can store it safely until you want to come get it, assuming I can get it out!

John, is this the one you mean? The web site says it's 34 7/8" which would be too tall for the space even counting the sunken floor level. I had ordered a KitchenAid, a $650 model, based on consumer reports' review... which would fit, if it weren't for the raised floor.

This is the one we bought about a year ago.  Overall we've been happy with it.  It doesn't dry plastics quite as well as our old Kenmore Ultra Wash did, which I blame on Energy Star requirements to use less electricity.  It also doesn't have as much soundproofing as our old Kenmore did, but this isn't a big deal for us.

It cleans great and has nylon racks. It is on sale all the time at different prices, so if you're interested, keep track of when the price drops. If it drops after you've purchased it, Sears will refund the difference for a certain time period after the purchase date.

I thought someone on this board said Whirlpool had discontinued making the standard tub dishwashers. Perhaps Sears ordered a huge quantity before Whirlpool ended production?

On most plastic tub Kenmores, for install and removal, I was able to push the top down until it was slid in place, and then reach inside and push it back up to fit the concave of the counertop, this allowed enough space for where the floor was raised....just a thought
