Being from the UK the times that posts are started or replied to do not reflect the actual time it is in the UK now.

This can be confusing when trying to distinguish if a post has been replied to as the time will not be correct.

Thanks.

Not only us in EU ...

AW.org forum server is in the US, but the actual time in NYC is later than in LA .....

I have a clock widget with Minneapolis time installed on my computer just to avoid this problem.

It really does amaze me how we all intersect, overlap and affect each other's lives.

Wild to think that an event in say, California USA can trigger an event say, in the UK or Australia.

Have no fear. I have to subtract an hour to get to "cornbelt" time.

In the real world E-mail programs often give you SENDER'S LOCAL TIME as time of issuance. When I worked for a Japanese company was getting resposes to TODAY'S emails... from the future.. LOL.... with tomorrow's date and time. Sorting in date and tome order was a *itch.

We shoulds add reference time Greewich (ENGLAND)UK time. [Not Greenwich Connecticut]. Where did that whole thng fromanyway, and why? Brits?

Would be good if the forum could have different time zones for different people like many forums do.

Show me an example or two of one of those forums please? I'm always open to ideas.

oh and yes, the time display is set to Minneapolis time the real time of course :-).

I do display it in 24-hour format like they use in Europe which I prefer to the American AM and PM which is ridiculous in my mind.

oh. I was refering To Greenwich Mean Time. But will do, thanks! Is my answer in what you steered me to? Will have to see.........

AND THANK YOU CANADA for adapting your days of switching to / from daylight savings time to ours.

And when the Bush-meister blamed Canada for our major east-coast blackout of 08/14/20XX I WANTED TO DIE. I think I shouted out loud at the television (days later) "YOU STUPID **CK, (sounds sorta like 'schmuck') and almost got into trouble!

We appologize for our arrogance!

I'd ride a broom first

Both these forums run on vbulletin something to consider should you upgrade in the future.

Nope, we pride ourselves at aw.org and vacuumland at having a unique custom written discussion forum software. You wont find it anywhere else. If there are new features I decide to implement I will write them into the code.

Those generic forums are so how do I say it, well generic. :-)

I could never understand the 24 hr clock,, then when I started working for the railroad 30+ yrs ago it took me quite awhile to adjust. Always finger counting etc. Don't think anything of it now. It really is less confusing once you've adjusted. Quebec is the only province where it's used as the norm for everyone though.

'Cornbelt? Just because we have corn fields behind major

Oy, what's wrong with corn?! I love corn, corn is good, wholesome, delicious and nutritious.

I don't care much for the 24 hour clock. Give me the 12 hour format anytime. At work we are all supposed to use the 24 hour format when we write out entries. Whilst it isn't hard to do, everybody still adheres to the a.m. p.m. system. I guess old habits die hard.

Custom Deluxe or Imperial Deluxe code. I think it has a bett

LOL @ petek! One of the things I love so much about AW is the graphic elegance of the site. Going from this to a generic vbulletin is like going from a TOL washer with a whole panel of lighted controls to a BOL washer with one lonely dial . . . they just seem so, so plain!

You just set the time to your time zone so if a post was written at 21:30 USA time it would show as whatever time it was in the UK timezone at that time, you could then look at the clock to see what time it is now to see if it was written before or after. It only displays the time zone you have set it to.

Other features that would be good would be an icon showing if there is a new post and a way of just clicking down to the latest post as it seems the forum when you click "down to last" it takes you to the very last post even though there may be few more posts that you havent read yet.

Goodness,

I live between Europe and the US and have to deal with four (count them, 4) time zones constantly and have no problem with this forum whatsoever.
Really, what on earth is the relevance? The posts are in reverse chronological order.

I like Robert's code just fine, I'm competent to judge and his programming is one hell of a lot more stable and quite a bit cleaner than the boilerplate most fora run on. When and to the extent they run.

This is what I have done.....

I keep two clocks running. The top one is on EST the bottom CST.... The bottom one I added the 24 hour face. While simple enough to figure out with only one clock, this just makes it easier for me.

No. Mr. Lattz will be in charge of computing the time while we are there. I have a script written out. "At the tone - the time will be....."

Rick

From someone who uses many different forums all giving the time zone options this seems the odd one out and it would be a nice feature to have... again rather than saying

"Really, what on earth is the relevance?"

This forum is used by all types of people young and old and different people expect different features etc.

If you dont want to use them then you dont have to use them but my guess is if you could set it to your time zone you would as it would make it easier.

"This Seems The Odd One Out"

Hey Richard, grab yourself a green tea and set your washer to delicate, cos this forum just plain runs on "Quirky Time" all over the world.....

I quite like it when I usually log on first thing in a morning, 9.ooam GMT, its like we`ve taken over the watch so to speak, Roberts getting shut eye along with central USA,

At 10.00 I like to think that Louis, Panthera, Carlo & Diomede etc are putting the kettle on for their morning break, just ahead of me...

Then theres Ronic, Chris, Leon & Nathan getting ready for their nights kip!!!

It sort of keeps me on my toes, because Thats Real Time just happening all over this crazy world...

Just my two penneth, now why am I up at this time...well just been sat vidiin the latest holy grail!!!

Good Night, Sleep Well Appliancer`s and all will be revealed on saturday!!!

That's it, exactly, Mike

Richard, dahlink - I have no trouble whatsoever making the mental adjustment when reading the fora here, regardless of whether I am in the US or Europe...there are only 24 relevant time zones, as we have no-one from the former UdSSR to deal with.

Surely, someone with the enormous amount of time on his hands to come up with all these wonderful ideas for changing Robert's tremendously stable and practical code around should have the split second and mental energy to simply do the time shift in his head?

Based on your postings to date, I daresay there's room enough up there.

I havent come up with these ideas, they are in practice on many forums, I am not dissing the forum how it currently runs im just suggesting that it could be an option so we can choose what timezone we see.

For me to make that mental adjustment is confusing as you always are aware of the time in this country.

I understand what some of you are saying but I think it would be good if we could have these options, its not about working it out but you have to question why other forums allow you to set your timezone if its as easy as just doing the mental adjustment.

I dont go travelling so im not aware of the timezones but I would like to see posts that I have posted based on the time in my timezone.

OK guys deep breaths here. I do not mind Richard saying what might be nice to add to the Discuss-o-Mat feature wise. The time zone idea could be done via Javascript, the posts could list Minneapolis time and your local time posted, it would take a bit of work but it could be done. As for the "Down to Last" link remembering where you left off in reading, I have absolutely no idea how that could be done. That doesn't mean it couldn't be done, it just means that some research would have to be done. I've never seen that before in a forum.

Since I'm planning on doing some code updates, lets do this. Think about what features would be totally cool to have. Don't worry about how difficult it would be to code, lets just have some fun and dream about the perfect forum. Obviously most of these features I wont tackle, but you never know what I can/will do. So put on your thinking caps and post your ideas here.

If you describe a feature from forum you've seen then please post a link to that forum so we can all see how it works.

Again I'm not making any promises, but I might pick a feature or two suggested here and implement it.
