Anybody have any suggestions/thoughts on washers for a medium sized apartment building laundry room? We have 14-1/2 units (some have in unit laundry or send out their laundry so fewer users than 14) sharing two washers. Our "tol" Whirlpool has died after a short life (like or so three years I think) of abuse.

We are thinking of the commercial Speed Queen since we think we need something simple and robust rather than someone's "dream" machine that they would have in a house. Any thoughts or other suggestions? We don't have coin machines, it's free, in that it is included in assessments.

The other machine is a basic commercial Maytag of some kind.

You didn't say if you required top or front load. Maybe you did and I missed it. Anyway, how about a stacked affair like these Speed Queens? In the footprint of 2 traditional top load washers and 2 dryers there could be 4 washers and 4 dryers. Just a thought.

I would think that you'd be along the right track thinking about going with the Speed Queen machine. Especially since you will have multiple tenants using the same machine.

Their machines are built to last and are one of the few top loaders made that still use a sufficient amount of water to wash clothes with.

I thought about front loaders, but we have one working machine (top loader) so stacking isn't necessary and the dryers are working ok. They cost about 2x more, but we do have a vertically challenged lady (plus the washers are on a concrete "pedestal" thingy) who would appreciate easier loading. I think the general feeling was more complexity and someone had had a bad experience with them.

I would suggest looking at the true commercial on premise machines if you want the warranty to not be voided.

We're ordering the Speed Queen - we have to have a fully functioning laundry - the troops are grumbling "why is it taking so long, wah wah blah blah blah" - it was impossible to get service people to come and then they had to reschedule, etc, just to get an official doa on the Whirlpool.

So we ended up going with the Speed Queen in my link. Our manager was able to cut a pretty good deal with Abt. I love it - it's so much quicker than the fancy Whirlpool. Only problem is messy neighbors leaving fabric softener and bleach residue....

In fact it was being used gangbusters the first few days. People seem to be happy with it overall, especially since a few didn't want a "commercial" machine.
