So as I noted in the vintage thread about have to give up my Maximas, I did recently have to move apartments and that also meant a change in dishwasher. The previous places I lived I pulled the existing dishwasher and used my own but at least for the time being there is nowhere to store the built in unit. I may have to work on building some kind of a cabinet to bring one of my own up. The unit in the kitchen is a new turbine pump GE, and it’s not even totally BOL. I’ve used it a few times and the results are mixed. It seems to clean OK, it has some kind of a filtration system, though it’s a different set up than what was in the Potscrubber. No multi orbit system, the spray tower is different, and it has a reflector instead of a power shower. The worst thing by far is the racks. They are flimsy feeling and not well designed to hold dishes. The wheels on the lower rack won’t stay on the track so it jams constantly and the upper rack does not glide smoothly either. The supports are spaced a bit wide too so it’s very easy to upset glasses. I guess it’s better than nothing, though it’s quite a downgrade from the Potscrubber III.

There is only one wash arm with the spray tower. Everything is fed off the lower wash arm.

Basic GE DW

Hi Cameron, sorry you have to endure this DW but as you said its better than nothing, the wheel issue on the lower rack is easy to fix, just pop the wheel assembly off and bend the plastic coated shaft so the wheel stays on the track.

So I’ve used this machine for a few weeks for a put it through it’s paces. There are some positives to report. I did bend the lower rack so the wheels stays on the track so that’s good. It is a mechanical dial so one can manipulate the cycle if you so choose. The cycle times are relatively short, especially for a modern dishwasher. Also you can get it to do upto 8 water changes, also a lot for a modern machine. The negatives...The upper rack performance just is not as good as the old Potscrubber with the t shaped power tower and the actually power shower. Yibbles are a problem here. This has a filtration system, but it’s different set up than what they used to use. From what I can tell about how it works, there is a filter disc under the wash arm. It bleeds a small amount of water off the pump going into the wash arm into the filter disc and then the water returns to the sump. The problem is that the entrance hole to the filter disc in only about the size of a cocktail straw so only very fine particles are able to enter it. Also the sump grate has smaller sized holes so muck tends to accumulate there and isn’t able to be drained away. I know this design is very old, but it’s still a shame to see it go front something great to something not so great.
