Can anyone give any info about the Apex Fiberglass tub washer? Were the tub and agitator all one piece? How well did it hold up to the g forces created by spinning?
Sorry asking so many questions,it is hard to imaging a Fiberglass tub spinning a wet load of laundry without it cracking. I thought fiberglass was kind of a fragile material,...like what is/was used on corvettes or tubs.

I was just a kid when I last saw an Apex. In retrospect it was the first "agi-tub" I ever saw. It was turquoise fiberglass with sort of a hump in the middle. There was a sort of "scalloping" of the fiberglass on the bottom of the tub. The machine I watched had a glass window in the lid like a Kelvy. I remember it seemed to kick most of the wash water out of the tub in the first minute or so of agitation---extremely splashy! Hope that helps paint a picture of what I remember. Best wishes-Steve

Yes the bouncing basket was fiberglas as described by Steve in the previous post. The spin speed was 650rpm which would was no problem for fiberglas.

fiberglass for tubs

You would think fiberglass is a very strong material-make car body panels from it and boats-some boats made of this material are still in use even 40 years old. There is a factory here that makes boats -racing boats and yachts from fiberglass. The Fountain Powerboat co.Some of their boats have set records-right here on the Pamilco Sound. The boat that set the latest record(about 180 mph) is fiberglass and has two 1500Hp engines! If the fiberglass could withstand that-would think it would be a GREAT material for washer tubs!better than the flimsy plastic used now!
