My junkyard situation is pretty good-there are several good
car junkyards that i go to,one i have gone to for over 20yrs
some of those junkyards also get appliances from time to time
and besides stripping parts i have got a couple complete
machines for fixup...
The best ever for appliances was the gillette,wy.dump from
1982-'84;there was a long pit where garbage was buried and
along the edge there was a large, long heap of appliances,
car bodies,etc-they would remain there for around a year,
then a bulldozer would come along and push everything into
the pit-the dump was a few miles from my house and i would
often make the trek there on weekends(when the dump was not
active)with my tools and wagon and load up!!;motors, fans,
pumps,pulleys,wiring,electronic parts,ETC.-Would get some
strange looks coming back with my wagon groaning under the
load!.There were a lot of cool and interesting washers and
dryers there:a pink late '50s filter flo,a '64 kelvinator,
a '60s philco ford(that i took the motor/pump from),
lots of rollermatics(but no unimatics or 1-18s)a couple
solid tub norges, lots of '60s/70s BDs,a couple japanese
twin tubs,a '64 maytag condenser dryer, and lots more!
I still have some of the parts i got back then and some of
the machines and devices i made out of the parts.
-very,very fond memories!!
