Appliance Paint on a Wash Basket?

Well, today I was treating some rust on the wash basket of my Maytag A407 and I accidentally spilled some POR-15 into the bottom of the wash basket.  I immediately tried to wipe it up with some denatured alcohol, but a black residue is still there.  I think the porcelain has become so porous that getting it out won't happen.  Or maybe there is still a lime/calcium film on the bottom that absorbed it? 

 

So my question is this -- has anyone tried using that Rustoleum Appliance Paint to "refresh" the finish on a wash basket?  I don't think it would be very durable.

No, but ....

If you have a dull, but decent tub where the porcelain is still intact, I have used KDS Diamond Clear coat that makes them look brand spanking new. Just be sure to use Por15 Marine Clean on it before painting. The diamond clear holds up so well, I bet their paint that comes in different colors would work just as well. The stuff is better known as "powder coat in a can", and sticks to smooth hard surfaces like nobody's business.

I  repainted the white tub of my 66 Inglis washer with a product called Wite-Coat when I restored it a few years ago.  It's made by the same company that makes POR 15; it's meant for sinks or tubs and it's a 2-part formula.  It turned out very well but it's tricky to work with.

I have also used POR 15 on a badly rusted tub in the past but it looked awful.

Thanks for the replies!  I'm glad to know it can be done.  The only rust area was at the center of the basket.  I was just a klutz spilling the POR-15 into the basket.  It doesn't look too bad, so I may leave it alone.
