Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The dryer has a window, and I'm willing to bet the washer has some good splash action! Don't you wish you could find a set that's in mint condition in somebody's old farm house?

Was the Sears Catalogue.
(Of course the underwear section was a close second).

Was there ever a time (once automatics were introduced) when one could not get a front-loader at all in this country? Seems like there was a brand or two avaialble for the most part.

Does anyone remember Sears' first ones offered and by whom they were made?

Not sure when Sears introduced the first automatics, however, it was sometime in the early 60s that we had purchased the Lady Kenmore Washer-Dryer combination machine (vented gas dryer model).

It is funny how people think that there are new ideas in the appliance world. Most (regular) people are amazed when you tell them that front loaders were around in the early 50's. Who made the first front loader and when? matt

Could that have been Bendix?? That's my best guess based on advertising that I have seen from the 1930's when automatic washers were still a newfangled notion.

Bendix

Sears came with top-loaders in 47or8,made by Whirlpool,These were bolt down models.Bendix front loaders in 1936ish.Bolt down also GE top-loaders around 45or6.My aunt and uncle had one the agitator looked like a silver rocket. Bobby
