What does any one on here think of Aeg/Electrolux, or Zanuusi machines.

I am thinking of selling my Bosch when it gets repaired on Wed.

Buzzing Noise...

Hey Kyle

Are you not concerned that the buzzing may cause future problems? It might be a cheap repair. If not just use it till it breaks, but at least if you've had it checked out youll know if it can be repaired or not.

Hey Paul

Well i've certainly few complaints about our modern Zanussi. It's 2.5 years old now and going fine. The 1200 spin ones seem to be abit hit and miss with the bearings, but this could be due to more 1200s selling than other models. Otherwise watch out for PCB problems, though this seems rarer than the bearings issue.

Either way, AEG, Electrolux and Zanussi all seem to be more dependable than the equivilent Hotpoints/Hoovers. Theyre not as good as the older XC machines from the early 2000's but otherwise seem like pretty much the best you can get in their respective price bands.

I think AEG ones often come with 5 year warranties lately, sometimes as part of promotions. Zanussis get the standard one year unless you order from John Lewis, which give you 2 years, or more on some machines.

Avoid the very new additions to Zanussis range, which look to be made in China as it's unknown how these will perform. Go for one of the Essentials/Jetsystems with blue bits on the program dial.

Bosch

Hi Liam.

Thanks for your information. Well, an engineer came out on the 8th July, said the machine needed a new door interlock, said he could not fix the machine untill 14th July.

Yesterday Comet left me a message saying the engineer has not been able to get hold of part, and it would be one day next week before they can repair my machine.

What would happen if I had a family of say 4-5 people. I am going to phone Which Legal Team today, and see what advice I can get.

This is a first repair and my machine is only 6 months old.

Not happy, :-(.

Paul

In all honesty, most Elux made stuff is pretty dependable it seems. I know people with Elux made products which perform well and have been reliable, although from what Ive seen and been told, the quality and performance of new Indesit/Hotpoint products is on the up and is getting a lot better than in previous years.

Steer clear of all modern Hoover/Candy products, honestly not worth the energy used to produce them. Constantly faulty.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your Bosch fiasco!!

Dan

Indesit/Hotpoint.....

Will be interesting to see how they pan out over the next couple of years. At the moment i can't work out if theyre as bad as they were a couple of years ago, or whether more fail because so many sell in the first place.

Paul, is there not any stipulation over how quickly Comet should repair the machine? Many guarantees offer a replacement machine after a certain time frame has elapsed.

Wondering if mentioning this to Comet might spur them into offering a replacement of your choice, possibly from another manufacturer?

Liam.

Liam

Hi Liam.

Comet phoned me today, they said the part will arive on the 23rd July, as they having great difficulty getting hold on the part.

Spoke to Which Legal Team today. They said they would advise me what to do. They said the machine should of been fixed sooner as its a first repair.

I should know more info either tom, or fri.

Good job we do not have a familt of 4, lol.

I had terrible problems with a polish made bosch in the 90's. In it's first 3 months it had a new door interlock, new motor and new PCB. I had to wait 3 weeks for the new motor to be fitted as it had to be specially ordered, Comet were worse than useless and I swore they would never get any custom from me again!

Comet

Hi Paul.

I will never buy anything from Comet again. When I spoke to someone at Customer service she was very rude to me. She said 14 days is ok to wait for a machine to be repaired.

When I said I have engaged the Which Legal Team for advice, she went very quiet.

I have to let Comet repair the machine for the first time, but if I am not happy with the standard of repair, then I have to get in touch with Which Legal Team.

Its a good job we don,t have a family of 4-5 people. Comet are so good at selling appliances, but when it comes to Consumer Care they score 0 points.

Mike.

it was a Comet Engineer that came out to repair my machine. I was so shocked when they used wd40 and a screwdriver to poke the door lock. Then they told me if I mess about or slam the door the machine should start. I said I would prefer if you could change the door interlock as its only about 6 months old.

I use to have a Hotpoint Aqualtis machine. I know Hotpoint have got bad feedback, but the Aqualtis was a great machine. Very quiet washing and on the spin. Sadly, I drove into the door and broke it. It was going to cost over £200 to repair.

Chris

Hi Chris.

On the Comet Website, they have my model for £379.99. I bought it in the sales and paid £340 for it.

I would not buy this machine again. Maybe the more expensive Bosch machines are made in Germany, but my model is made in Poland.

My parents have Miele appliances. Her washer is over 10 years old, never had any trouble with it, and although there are only 2 of them, she is always washing.

Think Miele make some fantastic washing machines. Plus, they are very sturdy machines and heavy.

Buying from Comet....

Hey Guys

If you buy an Indesit Company appliance (and possibly other makes) from Comet you will get a Comet engineer under the guarantee as they have brought the guarantee responsablity in order to get a better price on the machines.

As has been noted their customer service can have its shortcomings.......

Seamus

Comet doing warranty work.....

That's interesting Seamus. Particularly as it seems Bosch have come to this agreement with Comet too, hence Paul getting an engineer from Comet rather than Bosch.

I would have thought Bosch would've wanted to hang onto this themselves because of traditionally being quite up-market.

Either way, the amount of time Paul is waiting for a repair is not acceptable. A washing machine is more necessity than luxury these days and Comet should really offer him a replacement if they can't get parts within a week i think.

I think buying appliances from the smaller one-off shops rather than big chains might be in order in future, as at least theyre bothered about reputation for repeat custom.

Do keep us posted.

Liam

I think buying appliances from the smaller one-off shops rat

Liam

If only that was truly the case. Half of these if not more dont give two hoots these days about what they sell or how they sell it.

Very few I have been in actually reccomend anything decent and often have the low end budget made models ready to force on you.

Even ask for a relatively simple to obtain spare and they will con you into buying a new machine or even refuse to check out unless the part is orderable on their computers with a special number lol.

Comet

Hi Guys.

This is the latest update on my repair. Firstly, it not a Bosch engineer coming to fix my machine, its a Comet engineer. I reported the fault on the 6th July 2010, and the machine is still out of action.

Comet told me it quite normal to wait up to 14 days to have a machine repaired.

I have engaged the Which Legal Team who are dealing with the problem. Which told me under the sales of good act of 1979, a customer has up to 6 years to deal with a problem.

Comet said they will come out on the 19th July to fix the machine. Which have told me if the machine is not repaired by this date, then I am in my rights to claim for a new machine.

Dealing with Comet has been dreadful.

Paul

Comet

Hi Guys

Another thing I forgot to mention. When the 2 Comet Engineers came to repair my machine, one sprayed it with wd40, and then pocked the door lock to see if he could get the machine working.

Then the other engineer said, wonder if that hoover door interlock would fit this machine. The other engineer said the Hoover door lock was to big.

What kind of engineers are Comet using, I was gob smacked, lol.

Rob

I really thought the smaller places would be better than that. Sod it then i'll just get everything off eBay!

Paul, well today is D-Day then! Hopefully you'll have a resolution by end of the day, but if not then i guess a new machine won't be a bad thing, particularly if they allow you to pick something different.

The whole bodge-it-up and do a runner approach of the engineers sounds very poor. I appreciate some parts might be used on several makes of machine, but the whole approach sounds rather 'fix it for now' rather than worrying about the long-term serviceability of the appliance.

Still, i dare say Which? won't take any prisoners with them!

Liam

Bosch

Hi Liam.

Well today at 9am 2 Comet Engineers came out to put the new door intelock on. It took them about 10 mins to fix the machine.

I can,t understand why 2 Comet Engineers came out for a small job. Comet now repair Bosch appliances which are purchased at all Comet stores.

Then this afternoon I received a phone call from Comet Head Office. I spoke to the Customer Service Officer in the Directors Office. He said if I have any more problems with the machine to phone him, and they would sort something out for me, ie, replacement machine.

I think the only reason why Comet wanted to help more is because I involved the Which Legal Team. Also, I did not know you have 6 years cover under the Sales Of Goods Act 1979.

Finger crossed the machine will be ok.

Paul

Result.....

Well least that seems like a fairly decent result, with the follow up phone call etc.

Just a shame people have to go as far as involving people like Which? just to get somewhere.

I also stand by my original comment that 2 weeks for a simple repair was far too long, but it would appear that we hold absolutely no parts for anything in the UK anymore, so i'm not THAT suprised!

Anyway lets hope it continues to work for abit longer before giving you anymore grief!

Liam.

"but it would appear that we hold absolutely no parts for anything in the UK anymore, so i'm not THAT suprised!"

Don't I know it ;-)

Bosch

Hi Liam & Jon.

The machine seems to be working ok now.

Which said when it comes to consumer care, Comet are the wost offenders.

Paul

Jon....

Haha! Im amazed you've faired as well as you have with the problem on your car - i'd have expected you to be without it for a good week!

Paul, i remember when my Parents had a run in with Comet back in the 90s, they even claimed our washing machine was 'too heavy' for their van! I did hope they'd improved since then though - Maybe not!

Washing Machines

Hi Liam.

The next washing machine I would buy would be Miele. My parents have got Miele appliances and her washer is now about 12 years old.

It has never broken down, there are only 2 in the household and always washing.

The build quality on Miele machines are fantastic. Its just a pity they are so expensive to buy, but worth it in the end.

I only hope Miele do not change and keep on making their machines in Germany.

I have a Miele vacuum cleaner and its performance is great, but very heavy.

Regards

Paul

Bosch

Liam.

Just been thinking if Robert Bosch was alive today and found out his machines are made in different countries I think he would be most upset.

I was reading up about Bosch washing machines on a website, ukwhitegoods, it did mention on there about the quality of Bosch machines today are not as good as years ago.

I was in Comet last week and was looking at Panasonic machines. They had a metal door hinge and metal door catch. They looked quite a nice looking machine, but don,t know much about them.

Noticed Beko had their new machine out, the 9kg model. Also this was better quality than my Bosch.

I think the expensive range of Bosch might be ok, but if I was spending about £600 on a washing machine, I would rather buy Miele.

I noticed Mike has got some really good machines, do like the look of the Gorenje machines. One model had 5 years parts & labour. I don,t know much about this company.

Regards

Paul
