Is there a fabric softener on the market today that resembles the powdery freshness April fresh Downy use to have? I keep hoping that P&G will bring back the old scent, but after 5 years I have given up hope.
Yours is a common sentiment about the change in Downy's scent. I read it here at AW and in user reviews elsewhere. You'd think Downy would take notice and make the original scent available.
Wow, I just was just browsing through what appears to be 100's of negative reviews of their "NEW SCENT". Glad I'm not the only one who think it's absolutely revolting!
Aldi's own brand of fabric softener (liquid). I believe they changed the name from "Satin Soft" to "Tandil" but it is the same stuff. The Spring Fresh scent is almost exact to the old formula of April Fresh Downy, and the other scent, Mountain Clean (or similar) is almost exact to Mountain Spring Downy. $2.99 for 40 loads, and softens great.
Is there any truth to the rumers on another laundry site that P&G obtained the scent of original downy from a French perfume co. And than lost rights to use said scent?? Thanks Cheryl
I thought I read somewhere that some of the chemicals that were used in the original Fresh Scent were no longer available or were banned for some reason. With the size of their R&D department I am sure that they could replicate the scent if they really wanted to.
With all the complaints, and pleadings to P&G you would think they would bring their much beloved downy scent back.....after all isn't profit the name of the game.
Mixing gain fireworks with unscented downy softener is the closest thing. It smells like a lighter version of the old Downy. I just pour the beads into a jug of unscented downy, let it dissolve overnight and shake it up a few times.
