Hey Guys ~

Austin sure was right when he mentioned a few weeks ago that this must be a Bendix month. This little gem showed up on ebay a few weeks ago. I figured that since all the cool kids are getting into the Bendii game these days, I may as well join the wagon as well.

Story on the machine is - the previous owner, Alan, bought his home, located in a northern suburb of Chicago - Lincolnwood, about 12 years ago. This model S was still bolted to the floor in the basement of his beautiful mid-century modern home when he was a perspective buyer. The previous owner to him said that they wanted to keep the Bendix and sell Alan the house - Alan told the sellers - no deal without the Bendix. Nice to see Alan won!

Alan never used this little gem, even though it appears to operate just fine. The timer doesn't seem to advance, but I'll investigate that issue at a further time. The tub bearings seem to be in good shape, and overall, a little elbow grease and some Bar Keeper's Friend - and the Bendix will shine up like new! Hopefully once I'm able to tackle the basement project this upcoming fall/winter, I'll find a home on the floor and bolt it down for some possible front loader action. Enjoy the pics ~

On the way home - stopping for gas on the I-90 Belvedere Oasis:

Final shot. Looks like I posted before proof reading the previous post - piable? lol

I like the look of the Standard model. They seem to have more fun or personality than the TOL square case version. Unfortunately I don't know the model or name of that machine. Hopefully, it won't require too much to get it back in the game.

Oh Ben

Nice little machine! I may have an extra soap door for you.
I'm pretty sure I do.
shoot me an email with your address I'll get it out to you in the next month.
I have decided to have my welder make up a 12 inch high frame to which I will put my bolt downs on. Then bolt the frame to the cement floor. That way they are elevated, there is storage underneath, and you don't have 6000 honking pounds of concrete pluggin up your basement floor.

Bolt downs are cool because they are soooo quiet when they spin, not a lick of vibration!!

Great find,Alan lost out on that one!

Enjoy!

Nice find Ben! Congrats, these are very fun machines. The tub was the same size in all these bolt-down machines from 1937 thru the end of their production in the early 50's.

Hi Ben. The mechanic who takes care of my machines took a cover from garbage disposer, shaved it all the way around and it fits on top very nicely.

Congrats, Ben - everyone needs a Bendix! Were you surprised at how light it was? After Maytags, Unimatics and combinations, it's light as a feather!

The soap doors are frequently missing from these - or broken. Mine just lays on the flange and sometimes tried to scamper away. I'm stripping the 47 S I have for parts for a 1940 model, I'll save the exra parts for your machine.

Good luck on the Bendix

They are a lot of fun. I haven't found that anything comes flying out of the hatch when it's open during operation.

Ben, congratulations, it looks like it's in fantastic shape. Bolt-down Bendixes (or Bendii like Jon says) are great machines and very fun to watch, just don't expect them to get your clothes clean, you need a Duomatic or GE Combo for that...*ducks and runs*

I bet with a good wiping-down, the drum will be smooth and shiny again; from what I've seen, even the most well-loved machines (like the one Jamie now has) have drums that are still in like-new condition. I wish Westinghouse had porcelain like that.

Ross's food disposer stopper makes an excellent soap-door cover, and it bounces during wash as well to add to the drama!

YAY Ben!! That is such a cute machine! With just a little TLC I am sure that you will have it looking and running like new.
