Lowes is having one of their clearance sales and there was a Premier brand apartment size gas range sitting in the middle of the main back isle of the store with a big sign taped to the backsplash with $529 on it and the notation that it was the only one, lest anyone look at it and dream of buying a fleet. This was a tiny, no feature range. It had 4 stamped aluminum 6,000 BTU burners so you could forget about boiling pasta on it. I cannot figure out why it was so expensive unless you were paying transportation costs from Mexico or someplace worse, but if it were going into a rental property the cost was deductable to the owner.

I had to replace an apt. size electric stove in one of my rental units a few years back. Finding one that size was next to impossible and the prices were way out of line. I settled on a 30 inch basic Kenmore for half what they wanted for a basic apt. size model. Sears salesman said they were more expensive due to being a specialty item.
I think that this was a 20" range, so it is possible that it is a specialty item like Maytag wringer washers became much more expensive than most automatics towards the end of production. When I worked in NW DC, there was a company on the next street that dealt in reconditioned apartment kitchen appliances. It was amazing in the late 70s to see so many ranges in 1950s colors, notably the 24" GE spacemaker ranges and a few 30" models, also. There were lots of gas stoves, too, but they were plainer.
We had an appliance guy in town that redid them so they looked like they at least run and were clean. I remember that he used to get alot of blue, pink and other colors out of trailers that were damaged (alot by fire). He didnt guarantee squat but his prices were cheap. I bought a nice Kenmore 80 washer for $75 and it lasted thru me and on to my brother in laws family.
