I found some Ariel at a Family Dollar store yesterday. I was surprised as this particular box was made by Proctor & Gamble, and specifically had on the back of the box, not intended for sale outside of the continental US. Has anyone seen this before as to where this product is usually marketed? All of the directions are in spanish as well as english.

Awhile back P&G launched an Amercian version of Ariel (same formula also is sold as ACE laundry detergent), one supposes to counter the south of the border imports.

Remember picking up a few boxes, and after trying the stuff for just a few washes, took the extras back to the shop for a refund, and never used the open box item again. The scent was VERY over powering both in the box, in the wash and after laundry was dried. Even sealed in a bin liner, the fumes wafted through. In the end chucked the box into the rubbish.

Performance wise, I'd say this particular Ariel was not up there with Tide, and seemed to have more fillers (quite "fluffy" powder, not as dense as say Tide or even Persil powders).

Mexican Ariel

I use Mexican Ariel, and import it from there. (Well, through a Mexican grocer.)

I buy it by the case. For what I need it for, it washes extremely well. My dad's jeans get positively filthy at his job. Ordinary US detergents like Tide or Gain couldn't clean them. They'd come out of the wash still black and dirty.

Ariel is the only one that gets them perfectly clean. I find it works well on perspiration stains on black or dark clothing also.

It's possible that the U.S. version is not as good.

US version does not have the phosphates found in Mexican detergents. Hence the difference in cleaning ability.

P&G was taking lots of heat from "tree-huggers", over the phosphate laden Mexican Ariel detergent showing up on various USA store shelves. This even though P&G does not sell nor import such detergents into this country. It was the work of other distributors or importers.

So to try and capture the Hispanic market, and probably a few other reasons, P&G launched and rather quickly withdrew American Ariel from the market place. Likely as with your experience, Mexicans and others expecting the same performance from the USA Ariel were sadly let down.

Ariel is great! And still cheap!
Great detergent!
Go for it and use it sparingly.

If this is the same Ariel that is sold here, it is in a green box. It does an ok job, but not like it's Mexican cousin does IMO.

Wow! If you can still find the boxed Ariel, stay away. It is now old, and it didn't work even when it was fresh.

I like the good old, plain, blue bag Ariel. The one with Downy is funky. The blue bottle and purple bottle liquids are actually very good and not quite as sudsy.

Guy's i love the blue water it makes pretty fun to watch it washes real nice in my front loaders with heat added is a bonus cleans well at 130 f.

David i use the one with Xianillos there red little circles i guess that they are brightners?
Does anybody know what those little red devils do ?

Launderess i did not no that the american one does not have phosphates in them, even i do recall about two years ago when the brand came here in my community on the bag it said phosphate content was a percentage i hope i can find that bag to prove it.
