I need advice. I purchased a Maytag Atlantis MAV6200Aww this weekend off Craigslist. It looks great, however, when it comes to the spin cycle, it violently shakes unbalanced. I have to shift the load several times and it still is unbalanced. Anyone know what may be the cause and if so how to repair. Hopefully it wont be costly. Thanks

Could be the shipping material was never removed from the machine prior to installation. I believe on the back of the machine there is a rod with a strap on it that's has too be pulled out to release the transmission from the frame. Most people refer to it as a rip cord type shipping rod. If that is still installed no matter how you balance the load it will shake and jump around terribly. Also make sure the machine is level.

The Maytag Atlantises had no shipping straps.They were shipped on a plastic pallet that had to be removed from the bottom and had a collar made of styrafoam that kept the tub form shifting or shaking.Because they spin with the water in the tub,the load(especialy if it isn't full or consists of area rugs or bedspreads)shifts to one side causing the off ballance spin.Try doing larger,more mixed loads.

Couple things to check...
1) Check your snubber ring. This little creature sits between the wash mech and the base of the washer. If the ring is too worn and/or the base of the washer where the ring rubs against is contaminated, the mech will grab the base and transfer vibration. Remember, the Dependable Care Maytags use lubricated pads while your Norge/Magic Chef made Maytag (born in Herron, IL.) uses a DRY nylon/teflon ring.
2) Check your rear leveling legs! This is the simplest thing to check. The rear legs work on a see-saw kind of arrangement about the same as a Whirlpool washer and they can easily jam. Tip the washer towards you. You should see and hear the rear legs move and when you set it back down, hear the clunk of the rear legs self adjusting to the floor.
