Hi everyone, so about a year and a half ago I had mentioned in thread postings on both aw and Vacuumland that I was thinking about retiring from running the websites. I first launched Automaticwasher in 2001 (originally as classicappliances.com, renamed to automaticwasher.org in 2004). Vacuumland followed in 2007, and Automatic Ephemera in 2012.

Now, after nearly 25 amazing years, the time has come for me to pass the torch. After considering several options, I was approached by Groupbuilder—a company that specializes in managing forum-based websites. They bring the tools, infrastructure, technical knowledge and team needed to support and grow the sites well beyond what I could do on my own. GroupBuilder has been so very nice and have impressed me every step of the way, and I have full confidence they can carry our washer and vacuum communities forward for many years to come. Frankly, if something terrible had happened to me, the sites would have gone offline within a couple of months—but now, their future is secure, and believe me they’re in very good hands. It’s very important to me that all the work I have done over the last 25 years to share the history of automatic washers, other appliances and vacuum cleaners, etc. not die out with me.

But I want to assure everyone that this isn’t a goodbye from me. It’s been a true joy being your webmaster, and I’m not going anywhere. I’ll still be active here just as I always have and on other social media appliance groups, making washer videos from my collection, producing new reproduction rubber parts, and diving into new creative ideas to enhance our shared passion for vintage washers, dryers, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, and other appliances.

If you’ve enjoyed our websites over the years, I hope you’ll keep supporting them just like you always have. So, with that, I’m now officially retired. Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Alan—I couldn’t be more excited about our new administrator. Thank you all again—a big hug to everyone here!

Robert,
Thanks for all that you’ve done for all these years to keep these websites up and running! Also, thanks for taking the care to hand them over to someone else that you trust to keep them up and running. I can’t imagine that anyone else can ever do it as well as you.

Congratulations on your retirement! I truly wish you all the best! I will have been retired for 20 years in August and trust me the time FLIES by when you’re retired. I hope that you’ll enjoy each and every day.

Eddie

Thank you, Robert, for everything you've done to support this community over the last quarter century. Similar to Jamie, my life changed forever after finding this site and community in August 2004.

So many friends, so many memories made, machines found and restored, and a few cuts and scrapes along the way.

Here's to the future of automatic washing!

Ben

Retirement!

BTW I just renewed my subscription for the club via Paypal but it states I only have 2 days left. It did not update. Where do we refer these issues to now!
Thank you
Peter

And hopes that this will continue to be A SMALL WORLD!!!!

Well, all my best wishes to you Robert that you'll enjoy you're retirement and I hope are able to come by for a visit when you can...

I am certain that our AW.org community and website will continue to be as well-run as how ever long I'd been here how many years it seems are not as long ago, but will forever cherish my very many years I know I'll have here, thereafter...

Good luck to you and yours, Robert/Unimatic1140!

Thank you Robert

For all the hard work you have done bringing these communities together and giving us a platform to exchange knowledge and experiences. I wish you a very long and happy retirement and would second Mike's sentiment that we would love to see you on this side of the pond very soon.

Robert is one of a select few who could run a website as a complete professional and not let the membership drive him crazy. ;) I've seen it happen repeatedly! We can be a pretty dramatic bunch at times.

If Robert says the site will be in good hands, I believe him.

Enjoy your retirement (and move to Palm Springs?)

Thanks for all you have done Robert and good luck in your retirement! I hadn't been on Vacuumland in a couple of days and needless to say when I went to the site today and found the new format, I was flabbergasted. Lots of browsing to do now to figure it all out.

Gary

Thank you for 25 years of the best website, management and forum software ever created!

Is the current site formatting for AW.org going to stay or will it change to Vbulletin, ect?

Will there be new mods on this site?

I'm just curious, not that there is anything wrong with the current site or current moderation.

Robert

Thank you for all the years I've enjoyed learning and enjoying this site. I was so glad and excited that I was not the only person interested in washers. I really enjoyed meeting you in Minneapolis and doing a load of wash in your Philco Bendix Automagic washer and seeing again the Frigidaire washers that I grew up with.
Happy retirement and looking forward to hearing from you on this site. What are your plans for retirement?
Best wishes
Jim

Thank you Robert for all you have done these 25 years. I’ve utterly enjoyed being a member all the time. When you started this website it was a big improvement to the Yahoo group and at the same time I made my first trip to America to meet around 30 members at the first convention. Great memories that you made possible.

I hope the new people will continue your work in the same manner so we all can continue our common interest and love for appliances.

From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!!!

Hugs,

Louis

Thank you Robert for creating this amazing website, and with it, creating a world-wide community of appliance enthusiasts.

You have taught me so much about washing machines in particular - I had no idea there were 4 different generations of up-n-down Frigidaires (Uni, Pulsa, Multi and Roller); had never heard of an Apex with the bouncing basket; was only dimly aware of the orbital Kelvinator; and many more too. I feel part of a community, it has given me more confidence in this dimension of my life, including having a Hoover Keymatic front and centre at our wedding, where it was the document signing table.

I think I've been a member of this site since the beginning (?) is it really 25 years already???

I wish you every happiness for the future, including staying involved with this group waaaaay into the future.

Chris.

Congratulations Robert!!

When I discovered this site, I was thrilled to find out that I was not alone in my appreciation for these amazing feats of engineering and design. I, like many others, felt validated; I was not alone! I can hardly put into words how much this site means to me. Thank you so much for creating this wonderful world!! I enjoy visiting it daily! :)

Best wishes on your retirement! It is extremely gratifying to be able to let go of the corporate BS that many of us have to endure. No more deadlines, no more "memos", no more annual reviews! Ahhhhh!

I'm glad you'll be sticking around! Take care!

I'd be lying if I didn't say I am saddened that Robert is leaving the helm of Automatic Washer. But I fully understand his actions. Like many others, I'd like to wholeheartedly thank Robert for his dedication to his site. It has helped me in so many ways to learn of the hobby and more importantly, make lifelong friends. I am looking forward to his posts imparting washer wisdom and awesome videos of his machines. Once again, THANK YOU, Robert.

Thanks from Down Under

Thanks for everything you've done with this site, its sister site (Vacuumland) and the communities in both. I've been a member for about 13 years and have really enjoyed everything I've seen. I'll miss the POD and the layout of the old sites, however I know that the people behind the postings will still be there and able to communicate with each other. Enjoy your retirement! Lotsa hugs, Aussie Plugs
