Attention all Ramp Activator Fans!!!

Decided to put together another video of my GE but this time with the old bakelite V-14 ramp activator. I know some of you out there swear by this style of agitator and that is no surprise to me. Find me a dual-action agitator that can do turnover like this one!

Excellent video again Jon, thank you for posting this. So the permanent press cycle just has a slower spin speed?

You're right about that spiral activator... REALLY moves those clothes around

Speeds are chosen by toggel switches. The reason the spin speed takes a while to ramp up is due to the PP cooldown. Notice on this cycle the spray rinse begins almost immediately in order to cool down the clothing. Ben's (Swestoyz) I bet does a spray rinse from start to finish during the rinse spin. Does it Ben? Mine doesn't do that but I remember others that spray rinse the whole time it's spinning. Anyways, it's on fast spin because I don't have the slow solenoid working right now.

That's a really cool agitator isn't it? I happened to find it on ebay one day for about $7. Absolutely covered with hard water deposits but cleaned up nicely. Just need a mini-basket for it and I'll be good to go!

GE Washer

My mother's boyfriend gave us his GE washer after the Whirlpool rusted out and stand still during the spin cycle. I don't remember what year the GE was, it had a blue filter flo on it, and all the speeds, temperature settings, and load settings were toggle switches. At the time I didn't like it and longed for another Whirlpool, but it was not the brand that I didn't like, it was the fact that it was the boyfriends washer and not mine, we didn't get along very well. I could always tell when it was finished spinning because of the noise it made when stopped spinning. It did an excellent job of washing. Mom gave it to a friend of ours after I bought a Whirlpool set in 1984.

We've talked so much about the mini-baskets. Have we ever seen or does any one have, or are there any flix or pix of a spiral mini-basket? Your cool flick shows how amazing the spiral activator is. For years I have the four vane which i appreciated because it accepted the large 4 vane basket, but once I scored the spiral, there was no turning back. It's all I use, only popping it out when using the min-basket. Admit that the mini is the usual thing in the GE, but any time a full load is washed, is always the spiral. Are there any advantages to the 4 vane. Love to know.

Wouldn't it be great if we could score a spiral mini-basket? Remember when I confused that with the 3 vane straight I gave you. heheheheh ;'D. How I love bein' dumb;'D

NEAT video Jon...

I don't know very much about GEs, other than my experience with one Grandmother's 1973-ish machine that she had until the late 80s (it had a straight vane activator) and my other grandmother's condo building which had 8 coin-op 1981 GEs. They had white ramp activators. I always thought that the straight vane gave way in evolution to the ramp, obviously I was wrong about that!

I did some work on GEs occasionally to help my washer buddy/mentor - they sure are a different animal than what I'm used to. A nice change of pace occasionally!

MickeyD, hope you did see my mini-basket video featuring the basket you so kindly gave me. I have to say it's quite useful when I only have a dress shirt or two to wash. Glad you liked the video! You need to make a video of your GE washer for me now.

Kenmoreguy, I have always had a thing for GE's but never worked on one until this machine came along. I was just like you in thinking that the ramp activator was something that came along later in the GE line. I had no idea it was the original agitator for this style. I still have a thing for the straight vane too though just because it's so different and does just as good a job in my opinion. It's all relative I suppose. Glad you enjoyed the videos!
