Aunt Jemima????

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The huge grain mills sold people on special blends of flours to provide exceptional flavors and textures and, truth be told, morning is not the time of the day most conducive to making stuff from scratch, unless the cook thought to have combined dry ingredients ahead of time. I will never forget seeing my first Bisquick pancakes that were almost an inch high--magical.

as little kids, some word/names we couldn't pronounce exactly as written....

we referred to the Ford Model "A" as a Model Lay....

we had an Aunt Anna....which we called Ant Danna....

and of course Aunt Jemima, was Aunt Vag*na.....

yet no one corrected us...years later we figured out we were saying it wrong...live and learn

Hoping

I was really hoping for information about my stove rather than 12 year old humor, but hey, I gave it a chance. Thank you so much to those who posted information and to those who shared happy memories.

you mean to tell me, at 4 years old, you could read and pronounce every word with ease....

if you grew up with a slang or accent, simple words and phrases you may or may not know what they meant....

had a hard time too with Aluminum and linoleum...

just like we heard Aunt Flo was arriving, no one questioned about seeing her, we figured she came to visit while we were in school....

as we grew older and knew what we were saying, didn't stop us, we just used them in a different format....as we were too young to use/say bad words....Aunt "V" was known as a 'C**t that smelled like Tuna....both words having 'un' in the middle...

we could also say 'Suck a Dictionary', and stay safe enough without getting your mouth washed out with soap...

heck, I had knee surgery a few months back, and still cannot pronounce or spell the parts they removed....

>heck, I had knee surgery a few months back, and still cannot pronounce or spell the parts they removed....

They have to use mysterious words to keep the mysterious magic illusion working! Both for body parts, and also the tools and procedures they use. It just wouldn't be the same if they talked about: "...and next, we fire up a small power saw, and..."

LOL

Norgeway

Thanks norgeway for asking who made it. I started going over the stove again and found a small paper label that says
Manufactured by the Vendo Company
Kansas City Missouri
Patent pending
I don't ever remember seeing this label before. It gives me another company to ask about it. I know vendo made alot of items, I even have an old coca cola machine made by them. I hope they are still in business.

I can guarantee you that at 4, I had not heard "vagina", but I heard "Aunt Jemima" before I heard "vagina" and no one in my group of kids below the "age of discovery" at about 10 mentioned "vagina" during play.

I happened to catch the end of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a couple of days ago and the little girl was named "Jemima."

Spurred into action by Hans's comment in Reply #11, I've been looking for a copycat recipe for vintage Aunt Jemima mix made with four flours; but so far the only multiple-flour recipe found is made with wheat and corn flour.

Several copycats for Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix call for a dry mix comprised of self-rising flour, Bisquick, sugar, and powdered non-dairy coffee creamer.   To make the batter, an egg, 8 ozs. of 7-up and 1-3/4 cups of the dry mix are stirred together.

The search continues...

Hans- Thanks! I’d love to have a copy of that recipe.

Bill- Funny you should mention mixing a multigrain mix with some regular pancake mix; I decided that would be my backup plan if a copycat recipe for vintage Aunt Jemima didn’t appear.

Hi Robin,

Sorry, I can't tell you anything about the stove/griddle.
But, I think it's very cool, and I hope you'll post what you learn about it!
It's nice to see the old Aunt Jemima too! I had forgotten what she looked like.

Barry
