Proud to have bought Australian this year

I bought a new Westinghouse 420litre topmount on the understanding that it was manufactured in Australia earleir this year. Was I mislead? Interestingly it was in dollar terms $100 cheaper than the Sharp 440litre that we had bought 14 years before ($1160vs$1275) and thats not even adjusting for inflation.

From Orange i think

Hi Peter, I am pretty sure the larger Westinghouse models are still manufactured at the plant located in Orange N.S.W.but the smaller ones are from either China or Taiwan but I am not 100% sure.
Actually my neighbour had to recently have his 16 year old Westinghouse Side-by-side serviced due to a defect in the defrost timer,(he was at work and it was my day off, so I let the guy in for him..),and the Danfoss compressor was actually made in Germany, so who really knows if the things were manufactured entirely here even years ago, or were they just assembled here from imported parts.
Cheers.
Steve.

Philips fridges were rebadged Ignis, not the contrary :)

Ignis was founded by Giovanni Borghi in 1943 in Comerio (that very place where today there are Whirlpool Europe headquarters).

They mostly produced fridges and ranges then in late fifties they started making washers and dishwashers.

In 1972 Borghi sold to Philips (one of his customers as contractor), then in 1982 Philips purchased also Bauknecht

Whirlpool acquired Philips Whitegoods in 1991

To cut a long story short, the ex Ignis factory in Biandronno today is Whirlpool largest - and maybe world largest- fridge plant.

Many of th 24"/60cm wide frontloaders WP sells worldwide are made in the ex Ignis washer factory, close to Naples

Dishwashers are designed in the ex Bauknecht factory in Saarland, while big frontloaders for american market

(e.g. Duets) are designed and produced in another ex Bauknecht site in Baden-Wuerttenberg region

Compressor from Brazil?!?!?

Please don't say it's made by EMBRACO.

If it's Embraco... you should start saving money for a new fridge soon.

They last (conveniently) up to 1 day after the warranty expires.

THOUSANDS of consumers are posting their complaints in a brazilian "consumer rights" website.

Brastemp and Consul (Whirlpool) refrigerator use this brand of compressor and we've never seen so many complains before.

Aussie Fridges going strong... Bosch "Made in Brazil&#34

My mum has a Aussie made Kelvinator that is over 40yrs old & still going strong, never serviced (other than replacement seals & light bulbs) it is now the official "beer fridge" & lives in the garage.. coping with 40c+ heat!.

I Have a Bosch 449l Upright fridge that we have had for over 5 yrs with no issues. It is made in Brazil & has a Embraco motor. Its a work horse & has never skipped a beat (touch wood!) LOL

It replaced a Fisher & Paykel POS, an upside down beast that scared the cats with its noisy compressor clunks & hisses & it insisted on freezing EVERYTHING and never changed even with three changes of thermostats etc... GRRRR

I'm another....

....proud owner of an Australian made fridge...

A 430 litre Westinghouse upside down model...Bought in 2006 and, apart from a crack in the crisper drawer which isn't exactly their fault, it has been perfect...
