Australian laws are introducing the “two buttons start”

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

That was what was in my head as well - with tumble dryers, even the basic US designs, it's been a safety standard for half a century (or more) that if you open the door and close it again, you have to press start again, exactly to prevent such accidents.
Dryers in the US had door switches from the very beginning, was more so a convenience feature since all early dryers only had timed drying, the dryness had to be checked manually for some items since there weren’t temperature selections on some models.

There may have been a couple out there that didn’t have a door switch out there, but everything in the Whirlpool/Kenmore, Maytag and Westinghouse stable all had door switches on them.

Another reason why door switches were added was to get a good perception and reputation. If the dryer didn’t stop when the door was opened, would have turned-off the buying public plus could cause problems with heating elements burning out and failing early on if one opened the door while in operation and of course the high limit thermostat would kick in before anything else could happen.

Why not go with the overwhelming super-power technology that has invaded almost every facet of human existance?
Biometrics!
Facial Scans!
Fingerprint ID!
DNA!

😈
I'm afraid that is exactly what the world seems to be gravitating towards!

Don't be surprised if those things are not merely optional that you can turn down when you go online or go to a bill-paying site or other product-related site you just used to need a verification codes sent on your phone's text message for...

Ditto for starting your car or maybe even unlocking it to get in it, or for that matter, getting out of it...

Some future in our present making you long for the past, eh?

Individuality, privacy, among other personal values, are being fed to Data Centers whether you like it or not.
The internet and computers have made things easy in a sly way.
So has TV/radio advertising.

For instance, places like Ancestry. com - offers to have you send them a blood sample or something with DNA in order to find possible ancestors.
Another place wants you to send them your poop to see if you have a bowel problem.
You think that stuff like that isn't winding up in some data base?
Do you think that going to an eye doctor for a retinal scan is not going to be used for identification?

Like I've mentioned many times.....
It's all about Control, Manipulation, Privacy Invasion, etc., not much different than the Old-School "tracking" ways using Social Security numbers.

Welcome To Modern Technology! 😮

"We are the Borg!" You will be assimilated! Resistance is futile! My ancestors came from Civitella Roveto, Abruzzi, Palermo, Sicily, Telschow Poland, near Danzik.
Since stateside from 1906 to 1920, Crucible, Pa., Plum (Renton), Pa., Newcastle Pa., Kopel near Ellwood City, Pa., and Midland, Pa. I didn't need Ancestry. I paid attention to them on holiday gatherings, and during reunions. Two of my sisters sent blood sample to Ancestry.com. Of course in addition to Italy, Poland, a mix of Balkan, Azakenazi, and Tunisian were in there.

But..... and a big But........ That's what Ancestry tells people.
I don't rely on or go by what some website tells me.
A person has no solid proof of such things.

Highly likely, but the results do make sense for my geneology. Tunisia is just south of Sicily, the Balkans just across the Adriatic from Italy, and the Ukraine and Russia just east of Poland.

I think I was quite explicit with what I was trying to say, but I think there were models that had a door switch, but started running again after the door was opened and closed again without a start button push.
At least, there were certainly advertisements mentioning that safety feature (once the door is closed, you would ALWAYS have to press start before the dryer started running).

Otherwise, a kid could open the door, climb in, close the door an thus will get quite a tumble without them pushing start.

It'd be a bit tricky for a lone child to get into a dryer and close/latch/secure the door from inside being that there's no appreciable way to maintain a grip on it.

Our 1965 lower-model Whirlpool dryer didn't have a start button. Set the timer, it immediately began running (if the door was closed). The door switch was hidden behind the front panel, actuated by the upper (side-swing) door hinge so it would run before the door was fully snapped shut ... but that also meant the door would have to be held sufficiently closed, if not fully latched, for it to run.

My old dryer, a 1980s Hotpoint you set the dial and it started when the door latched, but as it was only 6kg capacity, it would have been a bit small for a kid to fit in. It certainly wasn't child friendly, as it also had the element behind a metal donut at the front of the drum which would have caused serious burns if a kid managed to press the door release button on the control panel and put their hand on it.

Of Course the results would make sense to you!
Their database has loads of historical information at their fingertips to seduce you into believing what they say.
And if you've sent them a blood sample, they've now sent it to the global database, adding you to the millions of other suckers that bought into this technology. - and likely gotten a nice payment for doing it.
They're making money off of you.

It's just like that telephone bullcrap scam "California Psychics"
The moment you call them, their databsase instantly brings up everything about you on their screens.
The person there can tell if you're married, divorced, have children, criminal records, you're job, associates, you're home/area/state, and even your pet's name, etc etc....
And with this info, can respond to you with approprate answers that you could Believe as true.
Again, they're making money off of you.

Ya gotta wake up and realize that all these "convenient" services are a part of a massive collection agency, but labeled in such a way that they prey on human curiousity, emotion, an desires.
