Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Also, while I don't "pre-wash" dishes, I usually do rinse debris off them before loading the dishwasher. This helps reduce the maintenance on the filter on the bottom of the Bosch DW here, and may help with the final result, as well as reducing total cycle time.

The water here is reasonably soft most of the year, as it comes from reserviors in the Sierra Nevada.

I've been using Finish Max-In-1 pods for many years, but I'm noticing they have disappeared from the Costco web site. However they have been replaced by a similar product, albeit in a liquid pack instead of a hard pack like the pods. I suppose I'll be finding out when I need to replenish the current supply.

Costco Packs

For years we have used Finish pacs in our Bosch with a built-in water softener. (We never prerinse.) However, a few months ago we switched to the Costco packs because of a stock out on Finish and have been very happy. I don’t think I’ll go back to Finish and will stay with the Costco packs.

A few years ago I began noticing some of our glass bowls and cups getting a little cloudy. I thought I'd experiment so I took barkeeper's friend (it has an acid in it) and washed everything by hand. It actually removed the haziness and since then I've been using the Premiere powder I haven't noticed any new clouding.

From Maytag.com:

<span class="ILfuVd" lang="en"><span class="hgKElc">"Soak a small rag or dish towel in vinegar, then rub a portion of the glass with the rag. A glass that's milky from hard water buildup should become clearer with each wipe."</span></span>

I am amazed the differences between two Bosch machines--one on softened water in Michigan, the other on city water in Palm Springs. I had no idea the difference the water hardness made. Using cheap packs (from Rite Aid, but I'm sure all house-brands are the same) the one in Palm Springs is a mess (filmy inside door, not clean feeling) while the very same pacs in the Michigan one is entirely spotless. Will take the "good" tabs out to Palm Springs and leave the "cheap" ones here.

Finish

I recently went back to Finish Ultimate and took the challenge. I just took the dishes out of the dishwasher at my apartment and I had shrimp alfredo casserole and finished the last of it. The Pyrex was crusted with mozzarella cheese and everything came out completely clean. No etching, no spots, no leftover food stuck to the dishes, just pure clean. And yes, it did better than Cascade's toughest ever did. I for the life of me just couldn't believe it. The only option I selected was turbo clean on the smart wash HE cycle, which is said to be used for tough to clean dishes in the lower rack. I'm sure it would've been just as good without it. Of course, nothing was prerinsed, absolutely nothing. The scent of Finish Ultimate doesn't bother me at all. I don't know if it was due to me switching detergent and rinse aid, or the machine itself, or both. Whatever it was, I am even more satisfied due to the performance. This Kenmore is a Bosch product, so maybe that's why Finish was recommended for my dishwasher even though it doesn't say it anywhere. Plus, my dishwasher sounds very happy with Finish Ultimate Clean and Shine more than Cascade Platinum Plus ever did. The pump runs very smoothly, whereas with Cascade it caused it to labor due to air sucking while washing with suds, although the wash action barely slowed down.

Jerome. will you STOP bringing up these old threads just to say you are the expert on dishwashing in your Kenmore/Bosch and laundry in your Speed Queen. We all know, you have said it a million times and everyone is tired of hearing it over and over. Nobody cares what detergents, appliances you use just as nobody cares what I use.
