Avocado Matched NORGE pair on Toledo Craigslist

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Somebody had to say it; Holy Toledo!

I LOVE Norges. Those babies can wash the sh*t out of any other contemporary machine. Pity these are in Ohio. Would these have the fountain filter or the back-of-the-tub filter?Also, can we tell whether this is a gas dryer or electric? I just love Norges.

Norge Washer and Dryer

The dryer could be either gas or electric, only the models built with a constant burning pilot had an additional rectangular door or the left side of the removable lower panel to access lighting the pilot. On all other models gas or electric you had to remove two Phillips head screws to access the gas burner on gas models and to remove the bushel baskets of lint that accumulated in these dryers in short order.

As some of you may remember I started restoring a Harvest Gold 1971 Wards version of this dryer in gas a year or so ago. I lined up all the parts needed and even bought a new motor for the project, and the more time I put into it the more it became obvious that the dryer was a poorly built piece of crap, it also was causing me to relive too many bad memories of the hundreds of these we fixed over the years. I tried to offer it to any club members that wanted it, but ended up saving the new motor and scrapping the rest of it a few weeks ago.

While Norge washers and dryers did indeed always work very well there dryers after about 1967 [when they abandoned the original well built design] and all their automatic washers were just not built to stand the test of time. This green pair may be someones last chance to get a working pair, but in less we find a NIB dryer of this style this will be one appliance that the museum does not have LOL.

Greg;

What's that white plastic thing on top of what I assume is a WP bakelite agitator? Looks like an aborted mini-basket. It's huge! Please don't tell me that's a fabric softener dispenser. How much plastic does one need to dispense 4 tablespoons of product?

It is a fabric softener dispenser! Actually, it's a dispenser molded on top of a "scoop & sling" lint filter for Speed Queen solid-tub washers. If you click on my avatar, you can see the filter being flooded by the overflow rinse - which makes it (unintentionally?) self-cleaning.

Shoot Me Now

ROFL!

Hmmm . . . I have a question for our resident quantum mechanic:  How do two wrongs make a right?  :-D

Or did this pair cross over from a perpendicular universe where Norges enjoyed Maytag status?

The subject drift advises on swift corrective action should I feel compelled to crash Toledo in pursuit of a Norge laundry pair.  I would clearly be a danger to myself, and the Norges are most assuredly a danger to all others.  But by my calculations you could probably kill two machines with one sock.  ;-) ;-)

That is a nice pair & great when someone does take the time & money to preserve what is one of the best laundry equipment in history!

Sure would consider making this set a daily driver (& I hope the dryer is gas, too!) if i could...
