Ok, i have to share this.
My partner bought a used 2004 Pontiac Grand Am in late march to replace his dying Dodge Neon. Well it turned into a massive lemon, the dealership we bought it from turned out to be huge sharks. We decided to try and trade it in last week as it was going to cost us a little over $2,000 to fix (massive electrical problems and we thing the transmisson was going). It had been some kind of flood car (we think Katrina) and was not right. After shopping around, we whent back to the dealer i bought my Corolla from.. They did not offer us quite what we wanted for the Grand Am but where willing to bend over backwards to get us into a New Car (not used, but New).. We whent and talked with the bank we had the old car financed through and they also agreed we needed to dump the grand am, and get something else.. We got all the basics in order (bank approvel etc.) and i sat down with the dealer last thursday. Although we wanted a Hyundai Elantra, my partner was not approved for that much (no more than $14,000) and the dealer couldn't come down that far. Next we looked at an Accent Hatchback SE 3 -door for around $14,500... They put some pelimnary numbers together and fired it off to the bank. 45 min. later they came back to me and handed me the keys and said it was ours. They sold us the car for a $11,500 loss (no i am not joking, we saw the computer sheet, it was a $2,300 loss) not including rebates. They wanted us to be happy with our purchase and knew that we needed a new car. They told us they where not in it for the money, rather a life time customer. We walked outta there putting $500 down and a $250 a month payment for 5 years.. They did loose there ass, but they don't care. There where some scratches on the steering column and door they are fixing free.. I can't believe a car dealer of all people would bend over soo much for us. We are thrilled with the little car and they called us twice to ensure everything was alright. Most places told us we where going to need $2000 down to get rid of the grand am.. Not Southern States.
Any way wanted to share that little tid bit.. Good Customer service does still exists. Yeah for them

I LOOOOVE Hyundaye!

Well here's the store of me (well my parents). In 1996 my mom bought a Chrysler Town&Country LXI-LOTS of problems. Lasted till 2003 when my daddy bought her a Mercedes e500 Lasted ONE YESR when my mom decided she HATED it-Ok she buys a Lexus SUV-Then Chrysler comes out with Stow-N-Go-She Trades in the lexus and gets a Chrysler Town&Country Limited. WHAT A NIGHTMARE.
The alarm always ed went off when it felt like transmission trouble and lots of electrical problems-one year later my parents have had ENOUGH with it-off to a HYundaye dealer-later that night, we drive off in a silver Tuscon limited. OMG they were soooooooooooo friendly and kind at #1 cochran hyundaye in Pittsburgh. And roadside assistance is AMAZING. Better than Mercedes (do you think my dad should get better roadside service from mercedes?) YOU WILL LOVE YOUR HYUNDAEI!!!!!!!!!!!

Please let me know how you like the Accent. I am looking to replace my dying Neon, as well, and the Accent caught my eye because it has a good warranty and it's one of the few 3 door hatchbacks left for a reasonable price. I would probably go for the BOL model, not the SE, and a stick shift. For me it's just basic transport around town and for short regional trips. I have a 300M for long journeys. I like small cars - they generally handle well and can be more fun to drive. And parking is so much easier, as well as sipping gas.

I've thought of a Prius but I've read that they don't handle particularly well, and then they have this problem with dirt roads or snow or ice - the traction control shuts down the car and you're stranded. Also some have been loosing power on the freeway. Tundra has been doing the same thing. Not good! I've read that the Tundra and the Prius have been bringing Toyota's reliability ratings down lately.

We had a Hyundai Elantra wagon for about 10 years. I didn't like it because it didn't have AC, but it was pretty reliable. The starter had to be replaced in 2004. The dealer we got it from has GREAT service, but we replaced it with a Montana SV6 in 2005. The service at our current dealer is excellent as well, and gave us a great deal on it. The problem with minivans though is that they lose their appeal very fast, as well as their value, and other people say they are getting very hard to sell nowadays.

I'm not really a big fan of Hyundai. I just don't like the designs or functions of the vehicles, but everything else is good, like the reliability.

I would really like this car to replace our van sooner or later, but it's pricey

Those are nice as well.. What killed me was when i test drove a new canyon from the Pontiac GMC place, the truck wsa already messed up. The battery was dead, the a/c did not work, the air bag light was on, the radio had no reception.. PLus the salesperson would not let me drive it hard... I walked with out further hestation... The sv6 is alright but those vans just have no appeal... I wonder if canadian hyundais are difrrent than the ones here? We have driven a Sonoata, Elantra, Tuscon and Santa Fe and we liked each one... Guess thats why they make diffrent cars

Hyundai has gotten a fairly good reputation. Back in the beginning, they were plagued with problems because they were using Mitsubishi engines in their Excels and Sonatas. Now that they are building their own engines and transmissions, they haven't been doing too bad!

The dealer however didn't loose anything...you financed it through them! Although they may have lost it on the actual sale price, they made it up in interest half of the payment....60 months * $250 a month payment is $15,000.

My suggestion to you is to pay the car off early to save on the interest but read the fine print first...make sure they didn't put any sneaky stuff in there that penalizes you from paying the loan off early!

Its not financed through hyundai, but throguh a bank.. Our intrest will be like $2000 total, after taxes and fees and such and what we paid... Not bad
Yeah Hyundais where not good initally but quickly took note and turned them selves around..

Speaking of good customer service, the reciever on my wireless mouse quit working. I sent them a email and the next day they told me they are sending out a new one to me. I was pleased with that.

OK, I ordered a replacement washable HEPA filter for my Eureka commerical bagged vacuum cleaner. It arrived with heavy denting on the media surface - so much that I figured it would probably tear with the first washing. At $40, it wasn't something I wanted to just live with.

I called the company, and they sent a replacement free of charge, without asking me to send the first one back. Couldn't have been nicer.
