Hi Robert,

If AW.org went to a paid membership that would NOT bother me one bit and I would be more than happy to contribute. It would definitely separate the wheat from the chaff, if you know what I mean, which would reduce bandwidth in itself.

It may take a while, but what about deleting some of the "nonsense" threads, which I've seen quite a few of?

Robert, in all seriousness, you have to do what you have to do.

If you give us the word that restricting posts on Super to strictly appliance-related topics is what is required in order for automaticwasher.org, I will certainly abide by your wishes.

I promised i would not post as much and i will.. IMHO, i will put any pitctures i wish to put up here on my yahoo picture account... Will that help?

I would also hate to loose the super fourm as i enjoy the tips, etc... I think that's its purpose is to be the off topic disccusion bord...

ALso would pay if need be, but from what you've said robert that won't help...

I am sorry, but I do have to say your remark about Austin was totally uncalled for Oxy. I know Austin, and he is one of the most un-homophobic teens I know. What up with you anyway? Do you think everyone that lives in the South is out to get you? Or is it just everyone in general?

I am willing to do whatever is needed to help with the bandwidth situation. If it is dues, or whatever it is, please count me in.

I started a political thread....and then the next thing I did was read THIS! Maybe should do a "no politics, no religion" rule. I am sure that would save HEAPS of bandwidth. Especially with an election year fastly approaching. Tom
 
Is there a way that we can delete older threads and put them in archives so people will only respond to current one, thus limiting the number of responses per suject matter? Would this help?

Don't you think such divisiveness coming from someone who professes justice and tolerance is ironic, or at the very least hypocritic?

Confucius say: "It's impossible for man to make point with pointy-headed man".

Enough of this wasted bandwith already. Meaningless threads and mega-posts by single persons have gotten out of hand, and are about to bring the site down with a major crash. Most of these threads/posts are not even appliance or vintage related. We need to get back to what this forum was founded for - our love and appreciation of vintage appliances.

I totally agree with Greg...non-appliance related discussions and perhaps even want-ad notices should be "Yahoo'd" to relieve space. Any youtube videos should be merely referenced to allow interested parties to download them instead of using the forum's space.

I actually like Greg's idea of having the super forum on Yahoo.
From your asking, it will get better for awhile, but then it will start all over again. I would say just from the growth that is taking place. New people not knowing about the bandwidth limits. It seems like this is what is happening now.
What I am going to do to help, is go see my Shrink two times a week instead of just once. That will cutdown a good bit of my posting in the Super Forum.

For example, thread 9664 Faces of Members was good,but because it is so large with text and pictures, maybe it could be moved to member section. Actually, I would love to see the pictures put in where the profiles are. I am sure this thread was a major bandwith hog, however enjoyable. We don't want cybercommunism, but there are sytemic limits, so maybe we limit the number of posts per thread to 50,or so, and then you get the offbalance guy? Just some suggestions to try to help. Phil
 
bandwidth for dummies

I was wondering if the You tube and movie links use a lot more than a simple post, with a picture? maybe eliminate them from super? I sure like them in Vintage even if it takes this dial up 1 hr for me to see them. arthur
 
Display images as thumbnails

When a message thread is entered, have images displayed as a clickable thumbnail. Only if the user clicks on the thumbnail will the full image be displayed. Especially with the really long threads, some people are only interested in viewing the most recent additions, and it isn't necessary for all previous images to download and display.

not all browsers are compatible with Yahoo groups.

The "digital divide" is not necessarily one between the ones with access and the ones without, but between dialup and broadband users.

Banner ads are unappealing, but they are profitable. They are also problematical, leading to pop-ups, flooding, and other unpleasantnesses. (I have seen these on another site, one on which I am a "top 20" contributor).

A fee...unless it would be nominal; I would not be able to donate, and might probably have to withdraw.

Another site I read regularly has size limits on
embedded photographs, and limits photos to 4 a day, and strictly so.

I do know that if we approach this calmly, rationally, and with love and thought, a reasonable solution can be found.

I may not have this right, but bandwidth is all viewing traffic that looks at a web page, right?

One thing I've noticed is that you do not have to be a member to read the forums. You only have to join and sign in to post. If you set this site up where we have to sign in to view the forums, you will eliminate non-members who casually log onto the site, thus saving some bandwidth. These individuals will then have to sign up in order to view the forums.

Having said that, most of the bandwidth is probably being used by we the members. I agree with the suggestions already mentioned, and I will from now on post only appliance and accessory related posts. I will also double check and, as necessary, use my picture software to reduce the size of any images that I post to under 100Kb.
