My dear washer buddy David (Zipdang),shared a tip with me a few months back regarding Bar Keepers Friend and Stainless Steel appliances.
I must say this product is just amazing! Just make a paste with water and work with the grain of your stainless steel appliances. This product will get out any fine surface scratches as well as discolorations on your stainless you thought were permanent. It is non abrasive and the active ingredient is oxalic acid. I would just recommend after you remove/rinse off the paste, you will need to polish the steel to remove any streaks.

Good Luck Everyone!

Shane, Glenn has done that too. I asked him what he put on his fridge because it looked so good. He said usually not anything but he had cleaned it good with some BKF one time.

Do you use Weimans or something like that for the polishing step? I bought some of that and thus far have only used it on my Royal vacuum, but it did a beautiful job on that!

Hey Scott~

Yes, I have used Weimans and it is a good product. Recently, I discovered the Pledge "clean and dust" Wipes. They can be used on wood, granite and stainless steel..They are just an amazing product and are much cheaper than Weimans

Cameo

Sudsshane:

I have a lot of stainless, and I have to say that I like Cameo better than BKF. It's gentler, leaving surfaces in a condition closer to mint. This effect is not so noticeable after a single use, but the cumulative difference over time is pretty striking to me. This is one person's opinion, and you have to take it as subjective, of course. Cameo is in most grocery stores, somewhere near the Comet and other cleansers. Cheap, too. It shares the rinseability problem with BFK. On items that can be washed at the sink, I give them a final washing after using the Cameo. On the range, I finish off with Windex.

Shane

I too am a lover of Bar Keepers Friend....I have been using it for about 10 years. It will polish just about anything metal, remove rust stains from everything ...even from fabrics, and polish old porcelain/cast iron fixtures discolored from hard water. It gets the job done the first time...I wouldn't be without it.

BKF....

Works like a charm on glass top ranges as well. No scratching, and puts the blue stuff to shame. =)

The other day Shane asked me what I use to clean my stainless appliances (Shane, I hope you got my e-mail), and after using BKF on them I usually just polish them with Zep aerosol stainless polish. I've also found Lemon Pledge works surprisingly well. For those of you who use a seperate cleaner and polish are there any polishes that you feel do the best job? I know of someone who uses baby oil on his stainless backsplashes but I don't think I could handle the Diaper Chic smell.

Oxidized Aluminum

I am "sort of" going off topic....but does anyone know how to restore oxidized aluminum? I tried my Bar Keepers and Brillo pads, but am having a tough time. Any help is appreciated.

does anyone know how to restore oxidized aluminum?

I have had very good luck with 000 steel wool and Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish. Removes the oxide and brings back the shine. You don't need to clean it afterwards. Just buff it with a dry paper towel.

BTW....Where can you get Bar Keepers Friend?

Finding BKF

The Target stores in my area have recently started stocking BKF again after not having it for a year or so. It can also be found in shops that sell All-Clad cookware, although Target's prices are better. Have also seen a liquid version of BKF at Bed Bath & Beyond, although I don't know if it works as well as the powdered version.
