We're going to see Barbra in Wien on Thursday!!!
Seen her already last autumn in Fort Lauderdale and will see her again in Berlin the next week-end, too!
Anybody there from the washer-nuts here?

Ralf

I saw here with my Mom last November. It would be a good show if Il Divo were simply an opening act instead of an integral part of her show. I hope she dropped the GW Bush impersonator for her overseas tour.

Barbra

I didn't see this tour, but I saw her during her last "final" tour. It probably is best for her not to have the George bit for the non-North American performances, but when I heard about it, (and the dance mix that some NY DJ made from her response to the heckler, entitled STFU), I thought it was really funny.

I couldn't afford her, darn it

But she hand picked the musicians accompany her from the 'States, the best of the best from NYC.
There is no need for her to do the Bush routine over here, after fighting side by side with the US for the last six years in the legal war (the one in Afghanistan) to help protect our NATO ally we have a pretty firm opinion of this presidency.
But good for her that she speaks her mind.
You folks have a great time and let us know how it went!

I hope you have/had

A great time!

I'm not a big fan any more, even after years (starting as a kid in the '60s!)

It isn't about the politics
--because I agree with them.

No, I stopped loving her as much when she did that "duet" with Celine. I do not like Celine. At all.

I think that "duet" brought out the worst of them both.

Just my opinion.

"My second name, that's T-E-S-S-Y--E!"

Right now, for classic pop, it's either Judy, or Carly, or Joni, or the pop side of k.d.

I still love Barbara Streisand and my fave track is `Run Wild' from the original Guilty album. But I've heard she's charging £100 for the London performance - I'm not sure how that fits in with the big socialist agenda because only the rich can attend LOL. Loved her `sex therapist' role in Meet the Fockers too....yeah yeah I know, but it was fun.....

Lawrence - I also love a bit of Carly and Joni. I played the `Blue' album at school the other day to my kids and they just adored it (who said 14 year olds have no taste) and I admit pathetically that I get quite emotional at `Stuff that dreams are made of' and `Itsy Bitsy Spider' by Carly.

Let us know what you think of the BS show Ralf!

Celine

I agree! I loathe Celine! Celine is not shrinking violet, (but then, neither is Babs). Anyway, I was surprised that they did it. I'm not the biggest Babs fan, but the two are simply not in the same league.

Kathy Griffin

Yes...and her take on Mariah Carey, and even Babs. I was on an RSVP cruise once where Kathy performed. She started out with a big video of the Mariah Carey episode of Cribs and she'd play a moment or two, stop it, then slam on it. It was hilarious. Next, she went to Babs. Oh she gave Babs her due as a great artist singer, etc, but made some pretty funny comments on recent interviews that Babs had given to Oprah.

Yes, Kathy is cool.

Don't know anything about Kathy....unfortunately!
Well, so far to that point, now to Barb(a)ra...

It was much trouble with the concert...
Thursday was announced to be the date for the big concert in the Honour-Yard of Schloß Schönbrunn, the former summer-residence of Maria Theresia, empress of the k&k-monarchy of the Habsburger in the 18th century as well as for the following emperors until 1918 when Austria became a republic.

The stage was errected, thousands of stools were set in the yard and it was surrounded by a fence, covered with a drapery to make it view-proof. We were in the Schloß (speek: shloss = manor, castle) the same time to visit the park and became absolutely excited as time went by and the evening draw nearer and nearer...

Back in the hotel I mentioned that thunderstorms were announced at the TV the day before for this evening but the sky belied my oracles! We layed down for a short refreshing sleep when suddenly an hour later we were woken up by a thunder...
The sky as black as coal, lightnings began to cross the scenery all over and thunders roared through the afternoon when suddenly it started raining cats and dogs or even worse and a bad bad storm aroused, sweeping through the streets of Vienna, whirling items through the air like nothing...

When the storm was over the town was filled with howling sirenes from fire-brigades and police' as well as from emergencies.
Three people died in that storm which broke countless trees and a krane fell onto a house - the house of the central fire-brigade!

Barbra's stage didn't collapse as did the stage of the Donau-Happening taking place on the same week-end but was unsafe and fences and stools were lying criss-cross over the yard and in its corners and the concert had to be cancelled for that evening.

People were drenched to the bones and went back home.
The concert was switched to the following evening....but.... same procedure as the night before!

At about six o'clock tubs of water were falling from the coal-black sky again and everybody thought: this is the end....

But fortunately there was not much storm this time and after about half an hour the spook was over!
Although the sky didn't clear up anymore that evening and it had become quite cool afterwards (the temperature had dropped quite much and we all got rain capes from the Telekom) quickly the wind had dried the last rain-drops on the seats so that the event could start.

Half past eight Barbra entered the stage and standing ovations were given to her when she started with: Starting here, starting now.... It was a fabulous scenery to see her standing in front of Schloß Schönbrunn although sometimes she had to struggel with some wind-gales that blew into her hair and the microphone. But she was great!

It was more or less the same concert she gave in Fort Lauderdale, where we went last year, but without her sketch with the president and with a bit more Il Divo though...only in a different order.

Saturday we are going to see her in Berlin!!!

Concerning the prices of the tickets I have to add: outrages expensive! In London the cheapest tickets available were 350 pounds which is almost 700 dollars! In Vienna cheapest rate was, as far as I know, 180 Euros (240 dollars) and it's said that this was the reason why Rome and Nizza cancelled the concert. Berlin has almost the same prices.

Have to add that we stayed in Vienna from Wednesday until Sunday and had a marvellous time all in all! It is really one of the most beautiful and most interesting cities I have ever seen! It was my second visit.

Barbra

I am a huge Barbra Streisand fan. We saw her in Ft Lauderdale last November. What an amazing entertainer. The hubby got us tickets for my birthday. You would have thought I won lotto I was so excited!!! I almost had a heart attack when we were being guided to our seat and I noticed it was on the red carpet in the VIP section! Here I was, 8 rows away from Barbra Streisand!! Best birthday present of my life! I also agree with Peter about IL Divo having such a large role in the concert. The Bush impersonator was amazing. The audience in liberal South Florida roared as Barbra made fun of Bush and denounced his policies. There was some controversy though, a Bushie supporter in the 4th row, after the skit, threw a cup of beer on stage and hit Barbra's leg..It splattered all over the bottom part of her dress. She, being the DIVA she is..picked up the empty cup and placed it on the piano and simply said "choice" ..Security quickly made way to the lowlife who threw the cup of beer. The audience booed him and he was quickly escorted out of the stadium to be arrested.

Yes, Sudsshane! That was what we saw!
We thought it was water or champagne that the bloke threw at her as it was quite glittering in the air while it flew towards her.
We watched the people in the VIP-zone from above as there were some nice guys there......lol. So, we must have seen you, too! What did you wear? We were sitting opposite of the stage on the balcony upstairs, but had a very good view especially with our binoculars!
I loved the way how she managed all that and also what she gave for an answer: we are living in a free country and everybody can annouce his oppinion here, so can I! Also she said to the others on the right side of her: you should buy my records but you shall stay away from my concerts in future! That was good!

oh ....WOW!

We were at the same concert Ralf!! if you and your partner are ever in Orlando, be sure and let us know! We could have dinner and discuss our mutual love of Barbra and appliances!..=)

Yes - we'd love to - I wrote here in the forum in October that we were coming but got no reply....! So, thought, that no-one of you was arround that area..... We have friends in Jupiter and will be looking forward to seeing them again may-be next year..? When you want to come to visit us here in Germany - let us know!
Ralf

Thanks Ralf,

I was curious how it went and appreciate your post.
No matter how badly the US government has presented itself to the rest of the world, it has always been the American citizens whose welcoming, friendly ways balanced things out to visitors.
Now that tourism is down - and looks like staying down - by over 40% (and business trips at least that much), it is only folks like Barbra who can show folks abroad that there really is more to the US than just certain Texan politicians.

Hi, Keven!

Well, we know that, as we have friends there, living there for almost 20 years now!
But always remember also: you are living in a democracy and that means: elections! America's majority has ELECTED him - twice!
Germany elected this Austrian bastard named Hitler - and got what it claimed for! (Not that I want to compare Bush with Hitler that would be inappropriate for both.)
It's very hard but true.... So, people should learn to think wisely about all pros and cons first before they choose something! Especially when they do it a second time!

So, we (my mate and I) would also love to make new friends all over the world - do not hesitate!

Ralf
