Hi All:

I am progressing nicely with a set of West Bend canisters like the ones seen in the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour episode, "The Celebrity Next Door," with Tallulah Bankhead.

I have all four of the regular canisters (flour, sugar, coffee and tea), and the Bakery Bin, a squat canister intended for buns and rolls, but which holds a 3-pound bag of Marty's favorite IAMS food perfectly. I also have the very HTF wall-mount paper towel/foil/waxed paper dispenser, and the scarce cookie canister.

But I'm having trouble with two desired pieces, and I am wondering if anyone would be willing to keep an eye out?

The first is the strainer to the grease canister. I have the canister, in really pristine shape, but the strainer is missing. I would not care what color a grease canister was, nor what shape the canister itself was in, so long as it had a strainer in decent shape.

These turn up on eBay, but they almost always go unbid, because sellers want too darn much for them - typically $15 or $20, plus shipping. If anyone finds one at thrift prices, I'd be extremely interested:[this post was last edited: 6/17/2013-11:05]

And Next Up:

I'm also looking for the This 'n That canister, a ginormous 10-inch-tall canister that is intended for crackers, potato chips and the like.

Here's a photo of one in the copper/white color combo - I am looking for one in silver, with black graphics and lid. I do not mind some scratching, and I don't care how bad the lid's paint is, because I can repaint them like factory - just did that to the rest of my West Bend collection. The graphic would need to be present and in decent shape, though I can touch up some scratching - had to do that with the canisters I already have.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!

And Just For Grits 'n Giggles....

Here's a shot of Tallulah Dahling with "her" West Bend canisters on the set of that Lucy-Desi episode.

Note the rare, first version of the bread box - when I say rare, I mean there will be peace in the Middle East before I find one of those!

Will use my best "magical" powers on your behalf.

Found Better Pictures:

This pic, and the one in the next post, show more clearly what I'm looking for. This pic shows a full set of the West Bend canisters with the This 'n That canister - it's the super-huge one at the far right. You can easily see that the This 'n That canister I'm looking for is much taller and larger than any of the others.

This is a full set that's for sale online, but I already have all the other canisters shown, and at $100, it's not worth buying the set just to get the This 'n That canister, so the search continues....

Grease Canister Strainer Surfaced!

A ratty grease canister with a good strainer just surfaced on eBay, and is now on its way to beautiful downtown Waterloo to serve as a parts donor.

Thanks for the mojo, Tim!

Um yeah, sure, if you say so Sandy.  I've been in sort of an estate sale slump lately.  There's what looks to be a good one starting this Friday @ 9am.  Hope I find some nice things.  PM me your wish list and I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

Strainer Arrived

The parts canister with the good strainer arrived today, days before eBay's shipping estimates said it would get here. The strainer's now cleaned up and in my canister, ready to do what it's supposed to do.

This leaves only the This 'n That canister, and another collection is DONE. I really love the feeling that comes from taking stuff that's run-down and unappreciated, putting it back into shape and giving it a good home.

The Hell of It Is.....

....That there are two This 'n That canisters on Etsy right now, and both are reasonably priced.

Unfortunately, they're both the copper finish, so I can't use 'em.

Ptui.
