Anyone here with experience using one of these battery packs for powering their furnace/boiler during a power outage? I happened to run across this Youtube tonight and it looks like a relatively inexpensive method to at least keep the house somewhat warm (not cozy warm) and avoid pipe freezes etc at least for a day or two if used judicially. I'm not really into getting a whole house generator or even a gas portable generator that has to sit outside and somehow run cables hither and tither, maintain an engine and fueling etc. We've actually never experienced any power outages lasting more than maybe an hour in the 19 years in this house but you never know . This past couple of days there have been numerous outages around town here and there from frozen tree branches falling on street lines and I've only heard a few complaints where a few houses were without power for maybe 24 hrs tops. Most are restored within hours... But sitting here at the moment it's bloody freezing and windy out and I'm thinking to myself.. if it were to go out right now for even 6-8 hrs things would start getting pretty cold (and dark). Here's the video. I'd have to get an electrician to come in and add that transfer switch because my partner and myself are not up to task anymore and I want it all done right. This would not be to power the whole house,, just our furnace boiler, and maybe my fish tank.. can cook on the outdoor bbq etc or use an induction hotplate if needed, or eat out.
