From seller at [email protected] ...

"I have an original (not restored) fully functional Frigidaire washing machine in excellent condition that I've had in storage for 20+ years. The washer is complete with the original hot and cold line hoses, original drain hose and original use and care instructions/booklets. The original wiring diagram on the back of the machine was printed in March of 1966. I have not been able to identify actual year of manufacture. The serial number is: 38 VD 9890."

Just so its clear: a washer that has been in storage for 20 years most likely is no longer "fully functional".

This was the very first used washing machine I ever bought back in 1987. I had a two-room studio apartment and I first had a KitchenAid top loading dishwasher that drew water and drained into an apartment sink/cabinet combo. Then, I figured if I got a solid-tub washing machine it would use a small enough amount of water that it wouldn't overburden the plumbing and I could replace the dishwasher (which I wasn't using all that much, but I sure wish now that I had kept it) with a more useful appliance, a clothes washer.

Anyway, there was a wonderful used appliance store in Westbrook CT right next to an old laundromat that used GM Frigidaire Rollermatic washers. George had a bunch of Rollermatics in a mini-graveyard in the back. I wanted a "Rapid Dry" model, but this exact model, pictured above, was in much better condition than anything else so I bought it. Exactly the same except mine had metal selector knobs, not white ones. This machine did all my laundry handily for six years until I moved out of the apartment and sold it to the next tenant. Wish I'd kept it, but...

And now I have the matching dryer in Canary Yellow. Go figure.

Ok

Gonna bump this thread up in the list. I'm curious as to who's after this machine? I'm letting it pass by but inquiring minds want to know, and make sure it someone who can appreciate it gets it.

I offered the seller $200.00, and he declined my offer. He must think it is worth more, but the fact it is not a rapidry model hurts the value. Hope someone can snatch it up.

MOL The working family's favorite brand.

That is a very nice Frigidaire, just minty-fresh. Wonder why it was stored for so long? Because it was a DPC mid-line machine most rollers, clutch parts and crucial pump bits shouldn't be too terribly difficult to rustle up if needed.

1966 FRIGIDARE WASHER

I have had a couple of these over the years and I was always impressed how Frigidare was so far ahead of its time with the white on white styling that would be all the rage in the early 1990s. I currently have the Rapid-dry version with the older three ring agitator in it, its one of my favorite Frigidrare washers.

i think $200.00 is quite fair

i haven't paid any more than that for any of my rollermatics. and 2 of mine are rapidry.a couple were basically given to me.

oh well i guess if someone wants it bad enough they will pay more. it does look nice.

I'd be interested to know

what he wants for it, since it's been sitting so long unused it's more minty, so to speak... So that very well may precipitate a higher than usual pricetag.

Looks like a very clean machine in good shape. Pricing is one thing I really need to know more about when it comes to these vintage machines. $200.00 seems fair to me.
While on the subject of Roller-matics, I have been trying to find information on the drive mechanism and how it works. Then I found the Frigidaire service manuals right in front of my face on the Home page. However the PDF file for the Roller-matics does not open. The other pdf's do open. Any advice?

The Rollermatic Manual

The file opens, but it's a big file so it takes a bit to download it depending on your connection.  It's probably best saved to your hard drive then viewed.  Study it over and you'll get a good overview of how they're put together, but there's nothing like getting up close and personal :)
