I JUST FOUND THIS AWESOME FLAIR STOVE ON CRAIGSLIST HERE IN CINTI. AND I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE IT, TO THE POINT OF RIPPING UP MY KITCHEN TO MAKE ROOM!

but they are asking $500.00 and i feel this is too much! so could someone please give me a comment on what they feel is a fair price. i offered 200! i have never paid more than 200 for any dishwasher or washer i have bought. and since i don't collect stoves it is not really worth it to me to pay more, plus i don't have more to offer anyway!

but if anyone feels i am way out of line here please let me know. i was thinking 500 was too high, the usual "antique shop" mentality that a lot of people have when they try to sell something old. there are still a lot of these out there and they aren't that rare yet. larry in parma has one in his shop, minus the pull out burners that i could probably get for 50 bucks if i wanted to drive to cleveland for it. but it isn't in as good a shape of this one i will admit.

anyway, here are some pics, it's very beautiful to say the least! i had one just like it in my old house and would love to have another! but 500 is way too high for my interest and my wallet at this time.

so is 200 a fair price?

thanks

pete

$200 isn't too bad of a price, but, depending on where you live, you can usually find the full flair cabinet with storage space underneath for $200.

Up until a year and a half ago, one could find minty TOL Flairs all day long for free in the Bay Area.

It's not ALL THAT and a bag of chips, either.

A brand new standard sized 30 inch gas self-cleaning range with sealed burners and a storage drawer can be had for $350.

An electric self-cleaning range with coils can't be much more.

Let's remember that it is very old, may have brittle wiring and has two small ovens at eye-level. (Read not at all practical for a large/heavy turkey). Also because the ovens are at eye-level you'll have to keep them spotless all the times. It's a novel design but there is a REASON they faded into obscurity.

Just some points to help you negotiate the price south.

If it had the base cabinet included,I'd say $200 would be a resonable price. However, without the base cabinet,I truly don't believe I'd be willing to pay more than $100 due to the aditional cost of instalation and building a base to rest it on.I had one and loved it but now,I am spoiled after having a ceramic top range.I truly prefer them over any other and cooked up a storm with both my 1977 FRIGIDAIRE Touch-n-Cook and my 2006 JBP83CC.The Speed Heat burner and thermostatic senser burners were my favorite.I always like FRIGIDAIRE'S Radiantube burners far better than any other coil top range.Consumer Reports rated FRIGIDAIRE'S RSE36S 30 inch range number one for years.

thanks for the comments everyone

i did hear back from the folks and they agreed to $200.00 selling price. i feel it's fair, at least for me. it will be fun to have those wonderful ovens again, i can't believe i left my old flair in the garage of my old house when i sold it! and the new owners threw it away! if i only knew then what i know now i wouldn't be buying this one!

oh well!

Ok, start with the basics. Flsirs often need switches, and the sensa temps are usually bad. Check the elements. If it is completely functional, $500 is reasonable but high. I sold one fixed, cleaned, warrantied for a year with a base for $800, so yah that is high. I have a Hotpoint hallmark too Pete, and it is not $500. I also have a "30 flair. And these are becoming rare. They are quite saleable. You can hang it from a wall bracket too, bases are easy to make, brick or concrete is cheap and looks good. matt

i think i'm going to

rip out some counter top and a wall cabinet and put it where my present frigidaire cook top is. i have the oven underneath and may even leave it, not sure yet.

if not i will build a cabinet for it on the opposite wall where all my portable dishwashers (5) sit. it shouldn't be hard to install once i get a mind to it! for 200 bucks i will get it in somehow! i plan on using those great ovens! love the small one! used it all the time in my old house! and that slide out cooktop will be fun!

if wiring is bad it can be easily fixed! if switches are bad, well i won't even go there yet! i am going to "wish" for it to be perfect! and my wishes do come true when it comes to the old appliances i love! i def have an appliance angel in heaven helping me out! most prob my mother or aunt, or maybe marilyn! maybe all 3! mom runs the dishwasher wishes, my aunt the rollermatics, and marilyn reminds me daily that if you wish hard enough it will happen for you!

sermon over! pass the plate!

Nice save, Pete!

Flair ranges are sooo cool! I have seen a number of parts go up on eBay for them too, so if you do need switches it may not be such a big deal. Good for you about getting the price down, too! Sometimes people just have no clue and throw any old price at you to see how serious you are. I have only ever seen a couple up here and they were always listed as <price to be discussed> which is Quebecois for <RUN LIKE HELL>....

Move over Jane Jetsen!

I piloted Flair ranges for years. I am drawn to the glass, the chrome, and the glitz, the amazing ability of the chrome lined oven to make the most beautiful browned leg of pork or Thanksgiving turkey. I can't begin to count the number of wedding cakes, catered dinners and family meals I cranked through it. I have had the wire break on a burner after 40 years of tilting the burner up to clean. The polished stainless top was a breeze to clean, no burner rings, no crevices and a joy to clean. Huge storage underneath. Company stands agog at the wonder of a machine so beautiful that is actually a workhorse. The flair is just a Frigidaire range in a prom dress. Same quality engineering, fabulous oven and even heat burners. I am one of the 3 people in America who actually hunger for a semi temp burner. If you known how to use it saves so many items cooking poorly from the wrong heat setting. The sad truth, there are still one of these boat anchors coming up monthly on Craig’s. I have one under a tarp, dirty, but working fine. Free from a remodel. I love the Flair. Its not for everyone but it is for me.
