Last week I got a Belling spin dryer of ebay for the princely sum of £9.99 YAY. This was the last version of the Frigidaire sourced spin dryer. Chestermike did an interesting thread on the early version in January. The main difference with this version being the inclusion of a lid locking device so the lid could not be opened until the drum was stationary. This was a new regulation at this point and was achieved by using a clockwork timer which was activated by pressing the red lid release button. This would apply the brake and then so many seconds later the lid would pop open. To achieve this also entailed the whole cast iron base being fitted the opposite way round this can seen the way the mains lead has to cross the base from the back to the front like an afterthought. It runs great and looks to have had little use . It makes that lovely growling sound when revving up. I checked the spin speed with a tachometer and it tops out at 3040 rpm. How much more fun can you have for £9.99 ? Nigel.

but over the years the red button flew off and she had a hanky over it to press down lol...

Great buy Nigel

Lady over the road also had one of these, I never saw it running, I would never have known it was a frigidaire machine, great to learn something new, plus how the delay lid release worked.

All the best

Mathew
