Belt Drive Kenmore Suspension Issues

My favorite teacher of all time asked me a question that I really don't know the answer to about her BD Kenmore washer. She told me that she threw a rug in (YIKES!) and left the machine alone to go while she took a shower. (DOUBLE YIKES!!!) Anyway, she told me that when she finished her shower, she went downstairs and found that the machine had walked about 2 feet forward... How a BD Kenmore can possibly walk is beyond me, however, she said that after that load, she noticed the suspension was very very loose and she could move the tub around in the cabinet very easily. Any ideas what it could be? My first guess would be that she broke the snubber off, that happened to mine last time I did a little work on it... Thanks for any help!!!

I agree...without the snubber putting downward tension on the tub ring, it would float in all directions fairly easily.

Been there, done that

I would say that the metal spring/bracket that holds the snubber in place has broken.

I was washing a canvas BBQ cover and the phone rang just as the machine went into spin.

Because the cover was canvas, it was still of water when the spin started, and after a couple of the usual tub thumping bangs that can happen with a whirlpool, there was a loud bang, and a continuing twang as the snubber bracket broke and ricoched around the inside of the cabinet.

It wasnt until 9 months later when I pulled the machine out to put the Miele in, that I realised it was the snubber bracket that had broken. The machine had been working perfectly during all that time.

Thanks for your help guys! Turns out she has a DD Kenmore, it's self leveling legs got knocked around and messed up. All I had to do was tilt it forward and back and it was fine, she felt quite stupid, but would've called a repairman had she not known me! lol

She better give you an A+ for fixing the problem, and saving her the cost of a repairman who would have charged her, and perhaps scammed her into replacing parts that still work.

I don't mean to imply that all repairmen are like that. There are plenty of honest mechanics out there, and I am glad about this since I am about as mechanically inclined as a billy goat.
