Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Did you end up getting this one? It was made the 43rd week of 1984. Most parts will work on a 1968 model. The wash basket and tub were different sizes by this time but if you transferred the baseplate and all it would work. When you say it won’t engage in the wash cycle, do you have it hooked up to water? If so does it reach the selected water level and stop? If not connected to water do so.

I just used the hose to fill it up, didnt hook it up via the intake valves, Ill try that and see if it works, I will most likely use this for a parts machine for the lady kenmores I need to restore once I get them here from Buffalo, or part it out.
The cabinet is pretty beat up, too bad I cant find a Kenmore body to swap it out

You should be able to fill the machine as you did and the machine should go to agitate when the water level switch satisfies. Is it possible the pressure hose was disconnected from the water level switch or the pressure dome on the tub during transport?

Don't Swap!

The Vari-Flex agitator is BY FAR better than the Gold Straight vane agitator. Vari-Flex is very adjustable and dependable (I'm speaking from experience) It would be completely foolish to swap.
Don't even consider doing it.

I wouldn’t swap the baseplate assembly since this has the short center post compared the the tall center post Whirlpool used from 1947 to 1977 which wasn’t prone to leaking compared to the short center post when it’s seals failed causing water to leak onto the floor or will mix with the transmission oil and possibly will “spill it’s guts” according to Gordon/kenmoreguy64.

Update,

I took the cabinet off and stripped most of the parts off it.. Once I get the lady Kenmores here from Buffalo I will see if I can use any of the parts that need swapping....
Thank you again for all the help everyone. The only reason I want to change the agitators is the look, the gold ones bring back some great memories as a kid..

Speaking of Kenmore Agitators…

Yes, I would agree the Vari-Flex is great and versatile. And the Roto-Flex is amazing as well. I have had both and currently have a Lady Kenmore with a Penta-Swirl and although it doesn’t look like much, has surprising turnover and cleaning capability as well.
