Just spoke to one of my rep. at Beltman shipping and i was informed that Beltman NO longer will ship washers or dryers Unless they are classifed as an Antique !! You must submit a picture and it has to be evaluated by there appraisal dept. All 1960-1970 appliances do NOT qualify Help !!Does anybody have any other shippers that can be used for shipping appliances ??

Just curious...

Why would they care if its an antique? Why would it make a difference? The weight is the same, the work for the cargo is the same.

I can almost see the opposite being valid, that a carried would NOT want to carry an antique. What kind of BS is it that is MUST be an antique? I can't imagine THEIR insurance company saying, listen, we can't cover you if you move appliances, but if they are ANTIQUES! well, let's write that policy!

Call me confused......

It's like a car transporter saying, yes, we can move that vintage Corvette for you, but that 1970 Lotus? Forget it!

Just a guess but...

I suspect this is because of problems they have had recently shipping non-antique machines and their insurance would not cover damages and they lost money on the deal.

So I bet if you are shipping a 1947 washer they will ship and it will be much more expensive than it used to be as I assume they use "antique" item rates. Items that classify as anique will be covered by the insurance company.

Craters and Freighters will ship anything, but their rates are probably 35% higher than Beltman.

Hey guys....

For what it's worth, I found what seems to be a possible good alternative for shipping services for all our appliance shipping needs. His website is www.ericsshipping.com. Now I have not personally used this gentleman myself, but I have talked to him several times about his services. He will pick up, pack and deliver to your door as part of his service. He quoted me a price of approximately $400 to pick up a dishwasher from the Boston area and deliver to the Orlando area (just and estimate). He is a true custom shipper. However, it can take some time to receive your treasures as he is truly a one man operation.

I hope someone finds this information useful and/or has the opportunity to try him out. The phone number listed on his site is his personal cell phone number and he answers all calls himself. I found him to be most helpful and willing.

Andrew
