With the side panel off for fitting the temporary drain hose I took more photos.

Old drain hose ripped off as it passes though the sub frame as can be seen in the videos the motor is spring loaded and moves all the time which has worn the original hose till it became week and tore off.

New modern ribbed pipe too big to fit on the end of the pump outlet.

So a bodge, cut more off the original pipe and pushed the rubber end of the new over, it’s a very tight fit, mans best friend electrical insulation tap wound around this new joint just to make sure it doesn’t move.

The moment of truth is here, one watering can off water and

NO

She’s not water tight, the sump filter leaks like a sieve :-(

I bathed the rubber seal in hot soapy water to soften it and turned it complete over so the outside edge was on the inside, more water added but still the water pored out.

Still the pump dose pump and discharged the water very fast along with loads of the mousse leftovers.

So I need some rubber sheet to make a new seal.

Hi lee

The sump filter can be adjusted to make it more water tight. Loosen the nut and tighten the screw or the other way around. This increases the tension against the spring bar therefore increasing tension against seal. It may squeeze a day or two out of seal to have a water test

that looks like a rivet on his coin trap -unusual to say the least , most Bendiii had a an adjusting screw there to tighten the door down.

Lee, you're doing an excellent job there, can't wait for the next instalment. It's nice to see that she's powered by a product of what to my mind was one of the great British companies, with a product portfolio from domestic appliances to aircraft via power stations and the wonderful SVT/CSVT powered diesel locos EE were nothing if not diverse.
Just had a thought, I wonder if the motor and gearbox are the same in the Liberators? I wouldn't be surprised if the motor was made in the EE Co works at Witton in Birmingham too.

Now what to use….

If I had an old door boot I could cut something out of that, but I don’t have one.

A sheet of rubber pond liner, yes I have some of that, but it’s to thin and the latch isn’t tight.

Ho I now, I will sacrifice one of my rubber car mats I have in the boot.

Cut a ring out of the middle thickest part.

One, two gallon watering can of water added, it’s dry.

Second, two gallon can full added, still dry around the sump door.

Ho No, drip drip drip could be heard.

On hands and knees I can see the drips.

Both ends of the pipe which runs from the sump to the float switch tub, I will have a closer look tomorrow.

The pipe is in pretty bad condition, all the other seem to have fared much better.

Things just dont last these days

Lee nothing lasts now days, my Grandads personal irrigation pipe lasted him 80 years and then it got handed on to my dad so it must be about 110 years old not a crack nothing, as smooth as the day it came out of the London Rubber Companies doors.

I have done a quick letter of complaint to Watchdog on your behalf

yes all the bendix i've seen have english electric motors, though in the liberator and wringer washers I've worked on the motors have been unlabled and had simpler end frames to suit. The transmission was via the westinghouse 3belt system, well it was a westinghouse designed machine.

Heres the original motor.

And one common thing I've found with english electric motors is that the wires between the terminals and the coils are rubber sleaved and have often perished.

So Lee if you have motor problems, check these wires. I've had to rewire a couple.

Now back to Bendix.

Bendix Parts

Because Bendix laundry was produced under licence, many firms in the UK produced their parts, Fisher & Ludlow produced all the frame pressings and others, many parts where all sourced from the West Midlands, The Black Country, the timers made by Chamberlain & Hookham Ltd, Birmingham - I believe they where also assembled at the East Lancs Road factory in Liverpool as well...again where the big English Electric factory was, makes sense really, best of all!!
