Tom, you are right in getting a local company you can trust. I had a Rainsoft before and it died from the same O ring problem. My guy came down and did his own water test, put it together according to the test results, installed it and it cycles once a week and the water is fine.

Rainsoft is a piece of ripoff trash!  Avoid them like the plague!  I'm glad I kept the tanks and just retrofitted them with new Fleck parts...BTW, my new Fleck valve is the 5600 12 day.  It automatically regens every 12 days, not based on water use...I can later fit the water use meter on it if I want to.  Every 12 days is just fine for our household.  The old WP one from Lowes regenerated every week based on water usage.
