Looking purchase used gas dryer
Decided after reading lots here to go with 29" Whirlpool (roper etc)

Some appear to have moisture senor and some don't. Which to prefer?
Best years to buy?

Should we buy a new gas dryer how good are the Whirlpool 29" gas dryers these days.

Any suggestions welcome.

I have a new Amana (Whirlpool built) 29" electric dryer that came with my new home and it works very well. Has all the cycles I need
or want.

Go with any of the Whirlpool, Maytag or Amana dryers. I don't think you will go wring. The 29" dryer has been in production for over 50 years now .

the Maytag MDX655 or MDC465 (gas or electric) 29 in models my suggestion. They may have Maytag or Amana on the brand, but they're all Whirlpool made.

Do you think the new Maytag MDX655, MDC465 or new Whirlpool 29" models would be as reliable as 29" units built 10 - 15 yrs. ago?

I'm not going to speculate on that. Maybe John L (Combo52) will comment. But given there are no electronics involved in either of these models except for the sensor inside the dryer drum, they should turn out to be quite reliable.

Any new dryer (or washer or whatever appliance) bought today probably won't be as "robust" as a comparable unit bought 20+ years ago ... but the entire industry is as such due to reductions for market price-points.  It is what it is and the consumer takes his chances with anything.  Seems reasonable to go with a design that has a long-term history.

Found Used Kenmore 700 Series GAS Dryer

$100
Kenmore 700 Series GAS Dryer. Front load dryer - Very large drum. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I'm selling due a new set that came with the house we purchased

Don't have model # yet.
Any body know about how old.
Seem like good unit?

Is this online? I need a picture to figure out how old they are. Kenmore 700 series goes all the way back to early to mid 1960s.

A good solid dryer. The lint screen is inside near the drum and not on the top. The od original WP dryers always had the lint screen access on top of the cabinet.

Greg, you're saying the Kenmore does have the lint screen on top? I can't see it, picture isn't big enough for me and I cannot enlargen it.

Yes, you can run it without the gas line hooked up and recommended to make sure the motor works, the drum turns and the blower is making wind. While running the dryer, remove the sight plug and confirm the igniter glows. If it does and everything else checks out, the machine should be in good working order.

Well took apart and clean well.
Replaced two seal at link chute.
Everything else appear in good shape.
We ran few loads and all seem well.
Thanks guys for you help

Is it safe to build a dryer pedestal out of wood for gas dryer?

Drum is lower than old Maytag.
5 back surgeries makes it tough to get that low.

Dryer doing well. Thanks again for the help.
This 29" Whirlpool drys little quicker and blows more air that old Maytag DG312.
The old Maytag is much heavier I notice when moving.
