best way to ship across country

I am tryingto arrange shipping for a140 pound vintage applianc across country. Time window flexible. I have tried Shiply and U-Ship and the quotes are in the thousands.

Can anyone recommenda reasonable, reliable shipper?

truck freight a good possibility.

must be a dryer or heavy dishwasher? could try UPS oversize? or a commercial trucking company-with truck freight will need a commercial dock at both ends of journey-should be about 200-300$ for truck freight-any loose or fragile parts should be protected or secured and package should have "do not stack anything on"warning if damage possible. I get stuff shipped by truck all the time and often see auto parts,HVAC equipment,commercial appliances and other on the truck.Stuff is treated as freight-no "soft glove" treatment,but damage is rare if proper precautions taken

I contacted Jackie D. in Nov 2014 to fetch an item in NE.  She had a route planned to IA, NC, and Toronto, refused to make a dip down to TX.  She had a possible run in Dec 2014 to somewhere else in TX, which would be conducive, but it didn't happen.  I heard nothing from her until I checked-in Mar 2015.  She basically said she couldn't/wouldn't do anything for me, with the general gist that she didn't want anymore to do anything for anyone on AW.  The seller never provided a pick-up address for bidding the job with U-Ship, etc. and was by then, of course, no longer responding to inquiries.

The days of shipping appliances for reasonable prices are over. It's just too expensive with inflation and other high costs.

What "qsd-dan" said is correct, days of shipping large or even small appliances on cheap is long over.

Fuel and other costs for those who work as shippers either professionally or as a side hustle have gone up. Places like U-Ship have tightened things up so only better qualified shippers can use that system, hence their prices.

My Hoover TT and Pfaff ironer both were shipped by UPS, but that was long ago now. In first instance eBay seller used UPS, other paid Craters and Freighters a not small amount of money to collect, crate and ship said ironer.

Quite honestly for something that is valuable or otherwise near and dear tend to stick with U-Ship, C&F or similar. Thus if something goes wrong there is a formal dispute process and may not be out of pocket much or at all.

Years ago when had AEG W&D set collected and shipped from CA used a highly recommended service. They in turn employed two yahoos to make delivery. The pristine NIB washer was damaged at toe plate and knobs (nothing serious, mostly cosmetic but still). Person who handled order by then had left the company, and worse fool that I was instantly signed release before items were indoors, uncrated and inspected for damage. Never again....

You're always going to find lower rates or better deals from shippers on U-Ship if someone is going from or through area where item is located and coming to or through delivery area. Portland may be slightly off beaten path for shippers depending upon where item is located.

If time isn't of essence can always just keep relisting C&F ad until someone responds with rates that are within budget. OTOH if seller wants item gone by such and such a date you'll have to make a choice.

So I used CH Robinson to ship a 215 pound DW (crated and and on a skid) for about $600. Screaming deal as Fed Ex LTL was about $1400. If you use a shipping broker you can find some deals.
