Black bottle. "Black Raspberry & Hydrangea". Smelled good in the bottle, but in the end, left clothes with a VERY sicky-sweet, heavy, LOUD floral fragrance. They get a big ol' FAIL on this one in my book.

I try to stay away from any of those with a "food" word in the labeling. Lemon fragrance used to turn my stomach, now it's orange. I think I've seen a vanilla & something Downy too, blech! What's next "Fry Daddy"?

I haven't shopped for Downy in ages until I read here that the April Fresh scent had changed - and did it ever! Whoo, Nasty!

Snuggle had a peach flavor one that was great. They discontinued it and replace it with a pomegranate one (red bottle), which is also very nice. But this one in the black bottle, it's so floral, like a Stargazer lily, or jasmine, or the magnolia trees here in the South.

I had to rewash to get the scent out. I think I am taking the bottle to the laundromat and casually leave it on a washer for someone to "repurpose".

What a wonderful idea to get rid of unwanted detergents and fabric softeners. And I am sure the people who use it will be thankful too!

I did see the Snuggle "Taco Bell Chalupa" not all that long ago at some Mexican Thrift Market Fair. I passed on it.

Snuggle "Taco Bell Chalupa

That reminds me of a MadTV sketch from several years back. I was unable to find it on YouTube, but it was promoting Spishak's new laundry soap....

...With the awesome cleaning power of Pesto!

Tired of all the sweet scents

I am pretty much tired of all the new FS scents. They are either sweet smelling or contain hints of creamy vanilla. The sharp scent of vanilla bean or extract would be Ok but this creamy smell is sickening to me.

I recently bought Downy unscented and when I use it I add a few drops of different combinations of aromatherapy oils into the FS dispenser. When I dry the clothes I add the oil to a wet wash cloth and include it in the load. Everything smells great and I control the fragrance and no one else in the neighborhood has it because it is my custom blend.

Works much better for me than any type of scent FS companies have come up with. This also works with lightly scented FS like Ecover.

The reason folks use fragrances is they purposely WANTED their clothes and washed items to smell of the fragrance on the bottle.

*IF it smell is too much just try less goop! :)

The same thing happens with perfumes folks use and spices in foods; if it is too strong try less "goop". :)

I know of folks who are too into making clothes have a scent. If they smell no scent they consider the clothes not washed; not cleaned.

Folks vary whether they want their washed items to have a scent or not. Many folks are in to scents, that is why even soaps have all sorts of variants.

An added variable is what washer was used and how well it washed and rinsed. I wonder out loud if some of these scents should be diluted before useage; since many modern washers use less water.

I do. I use just under half the recommended amount, just enough to impart a bit of softness and almost no scent. It doesn't work with the title subject here. Maybe it is my nose or this is a particular scent to which I am too sensitive.

If powdered ALL, powdered Oxidol or if Punch was resurrected and was original scent, there would be a lot less softener used.

I used half the recommended amount and diluted...Still the scent was overpowering.
Then I realized that the problem for me is that all of these scents smell too sweet to me and that's when I decided to buy my own, mix my own, and control the concentration myself.

The scent is too strong if you can smell it on someone's clothes when they are at the gym. This has happened to me..at first I don't see the person but I can smell them and recognize it is fabric softener...eventually I pin down the person and then I avoid them and stay far away.

What is it with detergent companies these days? Why can't they resurrect the fragrances of yesteryear? Did the old detergents contain perfume ingredients that are now banned? Or is it all down to cost and profit?

I too hate overly intense smells; there's nothing wrong with subtly scented soap powders.

Why can`t they resurrect the fragrances of yesterday ?

I think it has mainly something to do with synthetic musk compounds. Some have been found to be carcinogenic and very hard on th enviroment.
Not sure what has been banned yet or what is not used anymore on base of a voluntary agreement of the detergent industry, just like the way it was handled in many states of the EU regarding phosphates in laundry detergents.

But it seems for sure we won`t smell again what we loved years ago.

I do like a scent on my clothes, but I want a clean, crisp, fresh smell like yesteryear. I don't want to smell peaches and cream, mangos, bubble gum, or any of the other sweet, over powering, crap.

Trader Joe's has packages of lavender scented dryer schaces (sp?). I add one of these to the dryer. It leaves a very clean acent on the towels without making them stink or slimy feeling. I use unscented Downy or unscented Snuggle. I sometimes use 7th Generation lavender scented fabric softener. Like most of you all I can't stand for my clothes to have an artificail stinch to them from fabric softeners or detergents.
