Beware of Maxsold: Maytag 806

Hey Gang,
I had a supremely bad experience with Maxsold that I wanted to share with you all as a cautionary tale. I won a Maytag 806 in flawless condition. Arranged for help and transportation. Arrived at the site, ready to move the washer (2nd floor). The Maxsold site manager informed me that NO dollies were allowed... ouch. Also, the water could not be shut off... WHAT!? Seriously!? The washer shutoff was broken, and they were unwilling to shutoff the water main in the basement (for me to cap of the valves, yes I had water valve spigot caps, I was a mover in college, been there done that). So, I left my name and number to which Maxsold/the seller have ghosted on me. My fear is that this wonderful machine will be trashed.

Am sorry to hear about your troubles.

If Maxsold has a social media page such as FB you might want to post a message there as well. Sometimes corporate or someone who's job it is to monitor social media will see and reach out.

I'll see how Maxsold responds (if at all). I'll also keep the gang informed. This really hurt. Imagine finding a machine better than you ever hoped, then to have it snagged from your grasp. Like many, I've been scanning CL, FB, and estate auctions for years. This find took 2 years in the making.
OK, I'll stop whining.

I feel your pain... The fault is with the listing - the terms and conditions should have been spelled out beforehand; especially the part about no dollies allowed.  I guess they figured the buyer would simply pop the washer into a backpack and be done with it.    I hope you can resolve this - please do keep us informed.

I feel like I’m missing something here. I gather from their site that people can list items for sale through maxsold in similar fashion to selling on eBay. Is that incorrect? How is it that an item is listed for sale with no means to actually retrieve it. The no dolly thing is inconsiderate, but can be worked around. The inability to disconnect the water hoses takes this straight into stupid territory. How in the hell would anyone move the washer without disconnecting the hoses?

I think in hindsight, I would have removed the hoses from the machine, and using a union connected them together....I know about using caps, I have done that myself, but with the hose connector, as least you could crimp the hose long enough to make the connection and be on your way....

hell, worst case, bend/crimp the hoses and wrap tape around them.....once you leave, its not your problem...not like they were making this easy for you....

Thought same thing earlier today after reading post then going on about my day.

If I bother traveling to collect something including going through bother of bringing assistance and so forth, I'd be darned if left without what I came for because someone is messing me about.

I'd probably had found a way to crimp, bend or whatever hoses enough to staunch flow of water enough to disconnect those hoses. What happens afterwards isn't my problem. You do something to me, I do something to you; that's just common sense.

The Maxsold site manager was unwilling to accept the liability to the property if I changed anything. Baisically, once the wall mounted water shut-off valve was discovered to be nonfunctional the Maxsold site manager would not listen to reason. I had caps, I offered to loop the hose, I even thought of dissecting out the washer hot and cold water valve and leave it hanging... Bottom line, they would not budge. What a shit show. Boy was I pissed. Thankfully my son was there to remind me not to get too caught up in this drama.

Maxsold caveat

One more thing you guys should be aware of. With Maxsold, any damage to the property is charged to your credit card. So, for a 3 million dollar house, with a washroom on the 2nd floor: how much damage could be done by an uncontrolled leak in an unoccupied house over say... 1 week? That was part of the calculation. Hence, not worth it.

On the brighter side. I won the auction, so technically, the washer is mine. At this point, refusal of delivery will be considered a breach of contract. Moreover, since the sale by auction is governed by the Uniform Commercial Code, the express and implied warranty provisions of the UCC are applicable to and govern auction sale.

Reply #7, They said NO hand trucks, One could have gone out and brought back a few big burley guys to carry the machine out of the house.

 

And the inlet hose could have been pinched and looped back to the other faucet as others suggested, we have had to do this many times.

 

But in the end the sellers did not like something and put a halt to the sale, people are very stressed and acting a little weird these days.

It is Stupid and Irresponsible.....

to leave an appliance connected w/o a functioning
service stop, regardless of disconnecting a hose. Left on it's own, a hose is under pressure and could rupture due to age/condition. And, what if the solenoid failed open?

I'm sorry you had to go through this. I know how infuriating it can be. Lack of common sense of the seller is something that def would set me off. But then again, I get told that I think too logically....HUH? Well that's a separate issue.

I hope all works out for you, and you get your 806. I recently got a Harvest Gold pair and they are Awesome.
I'm not a fan of gold, but I purchased them from the original owner, and I had been looking for a set for years. Too good to pass up. If you come across a set in Copper, please keep me in mind. Maybe we could work a trade on cabinets, if gold is what you like.

O/A/N, I have a white A700 set I may be looking to sell. I haven't completely decided yet, but can let you know. I see you have it on your wish list.

John, I think you nailed it.
With COVID-19, the whole situation was stressed. There was a manic sense of urgency... be brief and be gone. I'll keep the pressure on with Maxsold. If I do manage to get this 806 I'm definitely open to trades etc.

On the lighter side, I have my 1963 Maytag A500 Highlander and 1966 Lady Kenmore Dryer on deck for winter fun in my garage.

Washer is yours......

So I would go back there and tape a piece of paper to it with your contact info that once its disconected to call you to collect it. At some point those valves will need replacing so the main has to be shut off. What if an old hose broke anyway and trashed the place? That washer will have to be removed at some point so they need to do what they have to on their end to close the deal.

The catch is it's partially disassembled, but clean and ready to go back together.

OK gang,
Here is the end of the story. Maxsold messed up. They should not have listed the washer if it was still connected to the water supply. They refunded my $1 (winning bid for a mint condition Maytag a806... pooh, we all know it's worth more than that!). I was informed that the washer was loaded into a dumpster with all other unsold goods. ARGHHH!

They made a perfunctory apology, saying they will train thier employees more effectively, then hid behind thier terms and liability.

It's like being sold a winning lottery ticket, then having it taken away (and offered your $1 back in exchange). Worse yet, having that winning lottery ticket burned.

It’s a bummer that Maytag A806classics got thrown out. A Maytag A806 set is one of my dream machine abut I recently got something that’s been a dream machine for over 2 years.

I’m sorry you had to go through this, but also concerned that there are people this Idiotic walking around unsupervised in society.

It really is a shame that Maytag got trashed because they were too moronic to disconnect everything so you could take it home and have it be apart of your collection. It’s stupid people like that who are killing these machines off and people don’t realize they will NEVER make appliances or washers for that matter ever again.
